  1. CHANCE!published at 105 mins

    England 2-2 Germany

Max Philipp had already missed three good chances, make that four. Again Jeremy Toljan gets in wide down England's left, he cuts back for Philipp, who could smash it home first time, but instead fluffs over the bar. He really caught it badly.

That is some solace for England - Germany being so wasteful - but it won't help them much without a bit of decent play of their own.

  2. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 102 mins

    England 2-2 Germany

Looks like Germany are readying a change - their fourth. There's an extra one allowed for both sides in extra-time now you see.

Here it is. Janik Haberer is off and Dominik Kohr on. A like-for-like switch-up in the midfield.

Fair enough. At least Max Arnold is backing himself. A first-time volley from about 40 yards out goes where it normally does. Into the stands.

Still, it's another German attempt on goal...

Slick, so slick. Max Meyer and Jeremy Toljan have it in spades down the Germany right as they play a one-two, a three-four. But Toljan's cross is eventually picked off by an England head.

We haven't seen a passing move like that from Aidy Boothroyd's team for a long while now. They need to make it stick if they're to have any hope of winning this without the dreaded spot-kicks.

    England 2-2 Germany

Ooof! Julian Pollersbeck, who's been doing his tax return for the past 40 minutes, is suddenly all a-flush as Nathan Redmond chases down the ball at his feet. The Germany keeper's clearance is so very nearly blocked by the England man - but he just gets away with it.

  7. CHANCE!published at 94 mins

    England 2-2 Germany

Immense they have been, pretty since drawing level with their second goal.

And here England are cut open again - Nadiem Amiri plays a one-two with Yannick Gerhardt down the left, he dances past the white shirts, but instead of cutting back to Felix Platte, waiting for his second goal, he fires wide of the far post.

How many times have I typed these words: Another let-off for England.

I'd take penalties now. Germany look immense.

  9. CHANCE!published at 91 mins

    England 2-2 Germany

So lucky! Jordan Pickford should buy a lottery ticket. He paws at a cross from the right, hits it straight into Nadiem Amiri, but it somehow scoops up in the air and Pickford re-claims.

    On any other day...

  10. KICK-OFFpublished at 91 mins

    England 2-2 Germany

Oh yes - there is a fourth substitute available in extra time now of course. Like in the FA Cup last season. Use it for a pen specialist?

    We are under way!

England's players are in a huddle. The Germans too. Pats on backs, this is the time for strong words and deep legs.

Another 30 minutes on the way.

Phew...I can open my eyes now.

England have got to re-group. They have to work hard. What they can't do is have four players marking one. Someone has to step up. They have to use their game intelligence to their benefit.

    Extra time it is!

    And.........

    penalties?

  14. Postpublished at 90 mins +5

    England 2-2 Germany

Max Arnold has been impressive for Germany but this effort from outside the box - with the clock ticking - is wayward. Goal kick. That should be that...

Still the Germans press, still the England defence holds firm - just about. Calum Chambers' header to clear comes off the top of his haircut - it could have gone anywhere.

  17. Postpublished at 90 mins +3

    England 2-2 Germany

A sloppy touch in the Germany midfield hands the ball to Jacob Murphy, who gallops down the right and crosses - badly. Straight to the keeper.

    England 2-2 Germany

Germany get to the line, a dangerous cross cleared, but not far enough, a Germany shot blocked in the box. Hearts in mouths but England get away with it again. Can they hold on for extra time and go again?

  19. CHANCE!published at 90 mins +1

    England 2-2 Germany

Germany corner, Max Arnold with it.

Marc-Olivier Kempf is in space but fluffs his header wide, although the ref had already blown for a foul.

There's some tired players out there. Another 30 minutes is going to make or break them. England have done well to get to this stage.
