    England 1-1 Germany

Lovely ball over the top from Will Hughes looking for Demarai Gray - a stellar touch would take him clean through to the keeper... but it's just short, Gray can't quite take it down. Great vision from Hughes.

    Demarai Gray

They're right back in it! What a perfect time to score. It's from a corner - James Ward-Prowse finds Calum Chambers at the back post, the German defence can't handle him. Chambers' header is blocked, he gets a second swipe on his right, which is also blocked, but the deflection loops up to Demarai Gray, who is on hand to smash home the equaliser.

What was I saying about making it to half-time? How a set piece can change the face of a match.

The shape of England's team now looks ragged while Germany look very, very dangerous. Aidy Boothroyd is saying to Jordan Pickford to calm it down. England need to re-group and string six or seven passes together. They don't want to go 2-0 down otherwise it will be game over.

    England 0-1 Germany

Wave after wave. Jordan Pickford picks out a cross from the right - England have got big problems there - but it doesn't stick up the pitch. They need a breather but Germany are straight back on the attack as a move down the left just runs out of room. Goal kick. Keep hold of it!

This is going to take something big you feel, from England. Germany are dancing the dance.

    Make it to half-time?

Of all the chances produced in this game, that was the easiest. It was placed on a plate for Selke and Pickford had no chance. It's no more than Germany deserve. England have to get back in this game and replicate the form they showed in the first 20 minutes.

    Davie Selke

You can't say it wasn't coming.

Again Germany spread down the England left and the pass and finish is irresistible. Right-back Jeremy Toljan gets to the line, it looks like he might have run it too hard, but he lifts the ball gently up over an England head to Davie Selke, lurking about seven yards out. He's got time to steady himself, take a breath, and plant a power header past Jordan Pickford in the England net.

They'd started so well, England. Can they haul themselves back in?

    England 0-0 Germany

Two Germany crosses from the left wing are fended off. But the ball falls to right-back Jeremy Toljan who again hits one from range, it's deflected up off Will Hughes and Jordan Pickford makes a decent stop.

Moments later, England are carved open again - again down the right. Maximilian Philipp absolutely rinses his man - I think it was Alfie Mawson covering? - but blazes wildly over on his left. A big let off.

The fizz has gone out of England's play. It's a bit lacklustre. Maybe they are tired but they shouldn't be - England have had an extra two days rest compared to Germany. Germany are on top.

    England 0-0 Germany

Alfie Mawson channels Sol Campbell circa 1998 and takes on the German midfield from centre-back. He's lucky to keep a hold of it, before zipping one wide for Demarai Gray, whose nicely shaped cross is blocked.

England are still looking decent but it's true; that early intensity has faded slightly.

I think Aidy Boothroyd will be thinking his players have just dropped off a yard when they should be pressing Germany.

  12. CHANCE!published at 27 mins

    England 0-0 Germany

You can hear Aidy Boothroyd booming out his instructions. It's not a huge, or hugely noisy crowd.

Germany's first corner is swung in by Maximilian Arnold and it's a really dangerous one. It goes all the way across goal, and out for an England ball, but Janik Haberer was inches away from connecting at the far post. As he gets up, he gestures that his shirt was tugged. Again the ref waves him off.

  13. Postpublished at 24 mins

    England 0-0 Germany

Max Meyer (officially Max) shows a nice touch to take down a tricky pass after darting into a pocket down the left. Mason Holgate gets close, and play is forced out to Germany's right wing, where full-back Jeremy Toljan pings one over. Jordan Pickford watching all the way.

If this is still 0-0 after 90 mins I will down a pint of Tychy beer in one.

  15. CHANCE!published at 21 mins

    England 0-0 Germany

This is a great game, full of chances, and flowing really fast.

Davie Selke should do better than to fire straight at Jordan Pickford after Maximilian (yes, another one) Philipp drives low into the box. Selke ghosted into space, but couldn't pull the trigger cleanly.

  16. 'Perfect delivery'published at 17:21 British Summer Time 27 June 2017

    Terry Butcher

Once again the delivery was perfect. It was a good powerful header straight at keeper rather to his side. But once again England's players are getting away from their markers inside the penalty area. There's no doubt Germany should be behind on chances created.

Stern, from the referee. He's not messing about. Davie Selke tries to slow up an England free-kick and standing over the ball has earned him a yellow. You rarely see that. I like your style Mr Mazeika (he's from Lithuania).

  18. CHANCE!published at 18 mins

    England 0-0 Germany

Tammy Abraham denied this time! Again it's a great ball in from James Ward-Prowse with a free-kick, it deceives everyone German in the box but Abraham can't direct his header. Either side of the keeper and it's in!

  19. CHANCE!published at 17 mins

    England 0-0 Germany

Germany show a little something of what they can do now. Fantastic play from Maximilian Arnold (can I call you Max?) to dink a delicious ball over the top of the England back line.

Jordan Pickford can never get there before Serge Gnabry, and he's exposed as he comes off his line, gloves holding on to thin air, but Gnabry skews his header wide. A big let off.

  20. Postpublished at 15 mins

    England 0-0 Germany

Demarai Gray is playing across the whole front line. He sweeps from England's right to left in search of the ball, finds it, now he feeds Will Hughes, who's made an equally impressive start.

Next on the ball is James Ward-Prowse, the Southampton man hammers a shot at goal from range which is low, hard, but always going wide.
