  1. CHANCE!published at 58 mins

    England 2-1 Germany

Another really big let-off for England this.

A cross swung in from the German left bounces past each of the many England white shirts in the box, it falls to right-back Jeremy Toljan, sneaking in at the far post, but his prod towards the net is just wide. I don't think Jordan Pickford would have been getting to that one, had it been on target.

    England 2-1 Germany

Yannick Gerhardt smashes one into Calum Chambers' ankles, the Arsenal man holding firm on the edge of the box. Germany corner. Davie Selke and Nathaniel Chalobah are squabbling and the ref calls them up on it.

Selke does get a flick as it comes in but England clear. Everybody behind it now, bar Demarai Gray.

    England 2-1 Germany

Germany look to raise it and England are forced onto their back feet, retreating deep. Will that be the pattern of the rest of the half? They've got pace to threaten on the counter if so.

It looked like it was slightly mis-hit but it was in the back of the net before you could blink. Just like against Slovakia, England have come from behind to lead.

England lead, and it's terrible defending from Germany! Serge Gnabry gives the ball straight to Will Hughes as he looks to clear the ball, and the Watford man does the rest. Hughes jinks past a couple of challenges, squares across goal, and Tammy Abraham has the simplest of finishes. His tap-in puts England in front!

It's quite the turnaround. After Germany's goal they looked all over the place. Forty minutes from a fourth youth final of the summer for England...

Good start by Germany. They have got a vice-like grip on this game right now. It shows how much Germany are on top when Yannick Gerhardt, the left-back, is able to get forward so much.

Demarai Gray glides into space, enough for a shot on the edge of the box. Deflected out for a corner.

Nice claim that from Jordan Pickford, who shows tidy gloves to snatch a deflected shot, good adjustment.

Germany beginning on the front foot. Tammy Abraham is chasing on his own up top. Also, I meant to say: no changes at the break.

Here we go. Back under way. Potentially 45 away from the final.

James: Maximilian: 12th most popular male baby name in Germany in 2016. And has been popular for a long time. Why the surprise at two Maximilians in the German team? Glad to see you have finger on pulse of German popular culture (not). Tschüß!

James! But what about all my maultaschen knowledge? It was more to do with my having to type them all out...

Earlier this year, we were grateful to a couple of tonight's starters (Nathaniel Chalobah and Demarai Gray, along with Tottenham's Harry Winks) for getting involved in the FA People's Cup and having a kickaround with youth team London Elite.

However, they may not have been so happy to be given the runaround by 14-year-old Adam. Check out his fancy footwork...

Both sides had good spells in the first half. It was no more than England deserved when they equalised, but I just felt England were on the ropes when Germany scored. England have had three or four great chances. It should be an intriguing second half and the next goal could win it.

    Even at the break then!

The way England started the game you thought they'd be at least two ahead, but Germany came back strong and Aidy Boothroyd's side have done well to steal back in.

  19. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 44 mins

    England 1-1 Germany

Tammy Abraham is cleaned out in the box by a German shirt - well, an arm actually, but as the cross loops out of play the ref again turns the penalty appeal down.

A break in play while Abraham gathers his breath. That took it out of him.
