So, the final placings in Group D will be decided on Thursday night.

England meet Portugal in Tilburg at 19:45 BST.

At the same time, on the same night, Scotland will face Spain in Deventer.

The Scots must win to have any hope of qualifying, while Mark Sampson's Lionesses could go through even with a loss, in theory.

The top two will go through to the quarter-finals, which - in the case of Group D's qualifiers - would be on Sunday, 30 July.

This winning matches at major tournaments thing is quite fun, isn't it England fans?

Some of you have astutely noticed that the 'as it stands' table posted earlier hadn't quite updated yet to indicate England's correct goal-difference, so here's how it really stands.

England are in command of Group D, with a far superior goal difference.

If they avoid defeat against Portugal on Thursday, England will qualify and win the group in the process.

England goalscorer Jodie Taylor tells Channel Four: "The second goal settled us a bit in the final 10 minutes.

"I had a quick look to see where the goalie was and she just came flying out, so I had a little dink."

Mark Sampson adds: "I can't remember Karen Bardsley having to make a save.

"We'd have liked to have more of the ball. But in the second half we got up to the ball quicker and got a bit more territory.

"We've got lessons to learn and we'll be better for Portugal. We'll get back, dry off and then think about Portugal.

"I'm delighted for Fran (Kirby) to get off the mark for this tournament and (Jodie) Taylor is obviously on fire as well."

England boss Mark Sampson tells Channel Four: "It's a huge result.

"We'll look back and say this was a big moment for us. We had to find a way to win, and that's exactly what we did.

"We knew we needed a win to top the group, and that's a big one for us."

Spain dominated possession but they didn't create much at all. It's a cliche but there's only one statistic which counts in football.

There is a scenario where three teams can end on six points, but England are virtually through.

England goalscorer Fran Kirby on Channel Four: "I was nervous going through as I hadn't touched the ball yet! But luckily it came off.

"We knew that Spain would have more of the ball but we kept our shape, were disciplined and took our chances when they came. When Jodie Taylor goes one-on-one there is only one outcome.

"I am fine, I just took a kick on the ankle but I am perfectly fine. I'm loving it here, loving every second of it."

That results means Scotland remain in with a chance of reaching the quarter-finals, despite their 2-1 loss earlier tonight.

They'll need to beat Spain on Thursday and hope that England also beat Portugal.

The Scots will also need to end up with a better goal-difference than Spain and Portugal (taking only their games against each other into account, so not including anyone's losses to England).

England's belief has never wavered. There were no signs of frustration, they stuck to their gameplan throughout and every single player worked tirelessly.

It hasn't been a pretty performance but it has been effective. They have emptied their tanks out there.

And who's to say England don't deserve this?

Fine finishing, fine defending and a tireless shift put in by all.

They're top of the group with a three-point cushion ahead of the final group games.

England win again!

The seconds keep ticking by and England are dealing with all Spain throw at them.

Three minutes of added time have been indicated by the officials.

Spain have dominated the ball but just haven't been able to break this England side down.

Into the final minute of normal time then, and England are almost there.

This win wouldn't mathematically send them to the last eight, but they'll be all but through.

England bring off the tournament's top scorer so far, Jodie Taylor, for midfielder Jo Potter, as they look to close this win out.

Meanwhile, Spain make two changes, bringing on Barbar Latorre of Barcelona and Virginia Torrecilla, for Amanda Sampedro and Leila Ouhabi.

England have been camped in their own half since the 10th minute, they've defended resolutely, they've chased the ball and they're tired.

But for all Spain's possession, they've never really forced England into a save.

And clinical finishing at the other end has been the difference. Jodie Taylor is in the form of her life, isn't she?
