    England 1-0 Spain

Just a minute or so left in this first half now and England will want to see the half out with their lead still intact.

They've been doing a lot of chasing and lot of hard work without the ball in these first 45 minutes.

Jennifer Hermoso has a shot from range for Spain, but it's an easy save for Karen Bardsley.

  2. Postpublished at 43 mins

    England 1-0 Spain

No chances to tell you about, but still England can't really get out of their own half.

Mark Sampson is shouting instructions on the touchline. He looks rather drenched, in the torrid weather.

  4. Postpublished at 40 mins

    England 1-0 Spain

The match is now being played largely in the England half, but to their credit, they're preventing Spain from having any real clear chances on goal, despite all their possession.

  5. Postpublished at 38 mins

    England 1-0 Spain

The England fans in Breda are in fine voice.

As it stands, the Lionesses would be going six points clear at the top of Group D.

  6. Postpublished at 35 mins

    England 1-0 Spain

Spain have had a staggering 80% of possession so far.

England won't care one little bit if it stays 1-0, but tactically, it's hard to believe this was completely in Mark Sampson's plan.

Perhaps - while it was clearly very fair to name an unchanged side after a 6-0 win - picking three strikers against a possession-based Spain side is playing a part here?

Will Sampson tinker with things at the break?

You can look forward to Alistair's match report from Breda - which will presumably be written by hand and filled via first-class post - later.

  8. YELLOW CARD (Spain)published at 31 mins

    England 1-0 Spain

Spain's Paris Saint-Germain defender Irene Paredes is booked for a late challenge. It's so slippy out there, it could happen to anyone.

Not happy with the referee early on. The offside decision was clearly wrong and could be huge and she's letting a lot of pushing go. Strong start from England!

    England 1-0 Spain

    Jonathan Pearce
Radio 5 live commentator in Breda

I know you've had some rain back home but this is like a cold, March day now. The weather is absolutely foul out there!

It is a day for cagoules and ponchos - not for a man of a certain age to be sitting in a short-sleeved shirt.

Alexia Putellas drills in the free-kick from the Spain right, but it's too heavy for everyone and flies past the far post.

Meanwhile, the rain is absolutely chucking it down in Breda.

Some fans in the lower rows of the stands are running up to higher seats, to escape the downpour! I don't blame them.

  12. Postpublished at 27 mins

    England 1-0 Spain

England's Ellen White concedes a free-kick, with a late challenge, on former Arsenal Ladies midfielder Vicky Losada, on the right.

Spain will send players into the box for this one.

  13. Spain bossing midfieldpublished at 26 mins

    England 1-0 Spain

    Alistair Magowan
    BBC Sport in Breda

As the rain pours down, this is already turning into classic tiki-taka versus the counter-attack. Spain are playing 3-5-2 but at times they have four players up front, and if they can get the ball through midfield, the England defence have their hands full.

Mark Sampson has plenty to think about.

    England 1-0 Spain

Silvia Meseguer and England's Jordan Nobbs in actionImage source, PA

England are now sitting deep with a compact shape. Spain are just trying to find a way past two well-drilled England defensive lines. The Lionesses have barely had the ball for the past 10 minutes.

    Rachel Brown-Finnis

Spain have pegged England back in midfield, but there are times when Jill Scott can push on and pick up the runners coming through. She can fill in the gap between England's strikers and the rest of the team.

  16. Postpublished at 23 mins

    England 1-0 Spain

Jordan Nobbs and Lucy Bronze combine well down the right for England, but this time Bronze is just offside, as they attempt to break.

Still, it's predominantly Spain in possession, but England have the lead.

  17. Postpublished at 20 mins

    England 1-0 Spain

Spain have a number of players who are technically excellent on the ball, especially in midfield.

Tonight England are going to be tested in very different ways to their opening game.

They're dealing with it well so far, but Spain are seeing a lot of the ball in the middle.

Andy K: One for the VAR...why isn't it in use here? Perfect opportunity to trial at the highest level.

Had it been in use for Millie Bright's header, it wouldn't have taken long to sort out. Goal, all day long.

  19. Postpublished at 18 mins

    England 1-0 Spain

Spain win another corner but England defend it well - Jill Scott this time with the header away.

There is so much height among the England side. Scott, Millie Bright, Steph Houghton, Ellen White... They're very useful at set-pieces.

  20. A teasing night for defenderspublished at 16 mins

    England 1-0 Spain

    Alistair Magowan
    BBC Sport in Breda

The slippy conditions are already playing a part, and some of the England defence are struggling to keep their feet as the Spanish team tease their way into the penalty area. A good night for nimble players, who like changes of direction, Fran Kirby included.

There is a bit of spice to this game already, and a challenge on Jordan Nobbs was met with resounding boos from the England fans.
