Fernando Llorente's last goal came on the last day of last season for Swansea.

He was signed to provide back-up for Harry Kane and he hasn't really done that yet. His time on the pitch has been limited, admittedly.

Some of Liverpool's counter-attacking play at Brighton was absolutely exceptional. How will they cope if Spartak come and camp tonight though? We've seen a few times this season that Liverpool have dominated but can't find a way through. Jurgen Klopp wants, and needs, a win.

  5. 'This is huge'published at 19:20 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2017

Liverpool v Spartak Moscow (19:45 GMT)

Steven Gerrard, who captained Liverpool to their 2005 triumph in this competition, has been talking up the importance of tonight's game.

"These players cannot underestimate how big this game is," Gerrard tells BT Sport.

"This is huge. If Liverpool are to compete with the Manchester Citys and Manchester Uniteds of this world then they have to stay in the Champions League."

On Jurgen Klopp's decision to drop captain Jordan Henderson: "I'm sure Jordan is hurting but I'm sure he'll understand."

  6. Who could they face?published at 19:18 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2017

You can't play a team from your own country in the last 16. You can't play a team from your group in the last 16.

That leaves this for the four Premier League sides who are already through:

This will be Pep Guardiola’s 100th Champions League game as manager, becoming the sixth to reach that landmark after Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger, Carlo Ancelotti, Jose Mourinho and Mircea Lucescu.

He’s won 61, drawn 23 and lost 15 of his previous 99 games, lifting the trophy on two occasions with Barcelona (2009, 2011).

Dave: I hope it doesn't come to this, but if Karius makes a mistake that costs LFC the match and a place in the last 16, Klopp will be 100% to blame!! God forbid we call Mignolet "in form"!

Mark Garrett: Foden will be central midfield. Fernandinho will be right back and Danillo to left back

    Только Победа - Only Victory.

That's exactly what Irina, Valeriy and friend are hoping for tonight, and it's the only way Spartak Moscow will reach the knockout stage.

The three of them flew over from Moscow yesterday and took in the CKSA Moscow game at Old Trafford too. Not a bad little trip.

There is a fourth member of their party, but he's a CSKA fan and was worried about his reputation.

Liverpool v Spartak Moscow (19:45 GMT)

    Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has been explaining why he has made five changes to his Liverpool side.

"I thought the best way not to lose is to win the game," said the German.

"It’s a completely different game [to the one in Russia], they have a different side with three or four important players back in the squad.

“We have to work, be well organised and play football. It is our home game and we are a strong side, so we should show that – we should show what we are fighting for."

On dropping Jordan Henderson to the bench, Klopp added: "I have a lot of difficult decisions – good decisions to make in the moment – so this is the line-up for tonight and that’s all."

Real Madrid v Borussia Dortmund (19:45 GMT)

    SonImage source, Getty Images
    • Borussia Dortmund must beat Real Madrid to avoid being winless in a Champions League group stage for the first time in their history. They have scored exactly one goal in each of their five games this season.
    • In fact, Borussia Dortmund are winless in their last seven Champions League games (D2 L5). Failure to beat Real Madrid would establish their longest ever run without a win in the competition.

I was seriously tempted by this on my way to the ground.

It's a cold and blowy evening in Liverpool - perfect for a bowl of scouse, the stew so hearty it speaks for a whole city.

This is the beef variant of a dish that has its origins in the Medieval trade routes of the Hanseatic League.

I've had the German version before; a heady mixture of herring, pork and beetroot - topped off with fried egg because, why not? It's incredible.

    Manchester City

Seventeen-year-old midfielder Phil Foden, who helped England win the Under-17 World Cup in October, is handed his first senior Manchester City start, while 20-year-old defender Tosin Adarabioyo starts a City game for only the fourth time.

Will Foden play at left-back?! Surely not. But that's what the team sheet says for now.

Elsewhere, Ederson, Danilo, Eliaquim Mangala and Leroy Sane keep their places from the side that started the 2-1 win over West Ham on Sunday, with Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling among the substitutes.

Manchester City: Ederson, Danilo, Mangala, Adarabioyo, Fernandinho, Foden, Toure, Gundogan, B Silva, Sane, Jesus. Substitutes: Bravo, Walker, Sterling, Aguero, Otamendi, Duhaney, Diaz.

Shakhtar Donetsk: Pyatov, Butko, Stepanenko, Taison, Fred, Bernard, Marlos, Ordets, Ferreyra, Ismaily, Rakitskiy. Substitutes: Shevchenko, Khocholava, Dentinho, Patrick, Petriak, Azevedo, Kovalenko.

Everton were hammered by Atalanta last time out

I wouldn't say that Everton's Europa League campaign has gone badly but new boss Sam Allardyce will miss Thursday's match at Apollon Limassol in Cyprus because of a "pre-arranged medical appointment".

Allardyce, 63, was appointed as Ronald Koeman's successor on 30 November and his only game in charge so far was Saturday's 2-0 win over Huddersfield.

First-team coaches Craig Shakespeare and Duncan Ferguson will take charge of the team for the trip.

Everton are bottom of Group E and unable to qualify for the last 32.

They have suffered four defeats in five games in the group stages of the competition.

Everton face Liverpool in the Merseyside derby in the Premier League on Sunday.

Manchester City playmaker David Silva is a doubt for Sunday's derby against Manchester United after not travelling to Ukraine.

The 31-year-old picked up the problem late in Sunday's 2-1 win over West Ham.

"I don't know if he is able to play on Sunday. That's why he stayed in Manchester to recover," said boss Pep Guardiola.

City have already secured top spot in Group F with five straight wins.

Guardiola refused to reveal details of the injury, saying only that it was "something uncomfortable".

Tom: What happens if Liverpool lose 10-0 and Sevilla draws 5-5?

I can take this one Tom. If Liverpool lose they are out unless Sevilla are also defeated (as Liverpool would be below Spartak in a two-way head-to-head or would be third in a three-way head-to-head on nine points).

Goal difference is not the first port of call when sides are level on points.
