  1. Over to the report...published at 14:28 British Summer Time 16 September 2017

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Southampton

That is a dire, dire start to the season for Crystal Palace. A new record as they become the first side in top-flight history to lose their opening five games without scoring. What an ugly stat.

The only way is up. There were a few - and I mean very few - signs of hope today. They will rue two missed chances from close range when Fraser Forster denied them brilliantly.

That's it from me. You can now jump into a live-text of all of today's games by clicking here. The match report for this bout is available here.

Thank you for your tweets and interaction. I hope we have set up the day's football for you. Good luck to your team!

And that is that. Roy Hodgson turns and applauds all four sides of the ground but he is wearing a grimace.

Yohan Cabaye looks dejected, hands on hips. Southampton in contrast celebrate and Virgil van Dijk is in there among those embracing.

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Southampton

A long ball forward again... it bounces in the Saints half and runs all the way through to Fraser Forster. Still we go on...

  4. Postpublished at 90+4 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Southampton

Southampton win a free-kick in the Palace half. They are seconds from an away win...

  5. Postpublished at 90+3 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Southampton

Crystal Palace look to shape something, anything... Joel Ward wants to hit one and that is way over the bar.

Exactly what was not needed. Fans turn their backs and a fair few begin the walk home.

  6. Postpublished at 90+3 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Southampton

A Crystal Palace goal kick. One last chance. It's sent towards Christian Benteke and the home side win the ball...

  7. Postpublished at 90+1 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Southampton

Shane Long trots off as Southampton wind the clock down. The game is being played solely in the Palace half. No sign of an equaliser at all.

  8. Postpublished at 89 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Southampton

It's the away side pressing for a second and Cedric Soares has a shot saved.

    Forward come Palace...

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 87 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Southampton

Virgil van Dijk is coming on. Yes, you read that correctly.

    Oriel Romeu off.

  10. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 84 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Southampton

More solid defensive work by the away side as first Cedric Soares heads a cross clear and they then hold firm as Andros Townsend hits a cross too long.

James Ward-Prowse on for Nathan Redmond.

I'm looking at Mario Lemina and as the game has gone on he's got better and better. He's been a massive player in that midfield.

I can't see other players getting in the (Southampton) team ahead of him.

  12. Postpublished at 82 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Southampton

It's getting desperate for Crystal Palace. They have little idea, long balls or at least lofted passes from just over the halfway line. There's no guile.

  13. CLOSE!published at 79 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Southampton

A big chance for Oriel Romeu. As someone shouts "away" with the ball delivered into the box he gets a head on it but guides his effort high and wide.

  14. We have a recordpublished at 78 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Southampton

Crystal Palace have gone 439 minutes without a goal at the start of the season. The record was Newcastle on 438 set in 2005-06.

  15. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 77 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Southampton

Ruben Loftus-Cheek comes off for Bakary Sako. A few boos for that move.

I'd like to see Loftus-Cheek play right up front. He is tall and they need to play a little more direct.

Crystal Palace need to be more forward thinking.

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Southampton

Palace have played 15 crosses today but our friends at Opta say just three have been "good".

  18. Postpublished at 74 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Southampton

I have to say - and sorry Saints fans if it's kiss of death - but Palace do not look like scoring at all.

They are not able to penetrate, crosses don't even look too dangerous as often they are from deep. Ryan Bertrand and Cedric Soares as full-backs for the away side are not letting much in behind them.

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Southampton

Frustration compounded as Andros Townsend fouls Ryan Bertrand near the corner flag to give the away side the chance to kill the game with a free-kick deep in their own half. The seconds tick away. Timothy Fosu-Mensah is limping for Palace.

Maybe take the defender off and throw Bakary Sako on up top? Or is that a bit bold for Roy Hodgson?

There's always a chance when you're chasing a lead you can over commit and that's what Southampton are hoping for.

It would be a really mighty climb for Crystal Palace to get back in the game if that happens.
