And here we go, Crystal Palace emerge from the tunnel to a rapturous reception. "I'm feeling, glad all over," sing their faithful.

Roy Hodgson steps out and throws more waves, thumbs up gestures and clenched fists than you can imagine. The photographers line up to get their shot of him. Time to put those years of experience to a Premier League test again Roy....

Mudiaga: Desperately wanted Chelsea to be the first London club to lift UCL. It was worth the wait when we lifted it in 2012.

Dan Baxter: Waited 3,283 days & 512 games for Arsenal to win a trophy. My daughter was born and she's now had 3 FA Cups in 4 years!

Given Roy Hodgson has waited 52 years to return to Crystal Palace, we want to know what you've waited a long time for in football and if it was worth it?

Water is bring sprinkled on the middle of the pitch at Selhurst Park as we await the players. It doesn't look like a full house just yet but maybe people are getting that key pie or coffee.

Roy Hodgson has the pragmatic approach to football and try not to take too many risks. Frank de Boer tried different things, he tried to go long, tried to play the ball but Christian Benteke does not do enough for Palace. He did De Boer no favours.

Players miss chances, but he does not have the passion and desire to get on the end of crosses. I do not see him have a go at anybody demanding they create chances. He needs to change his attitude, he is their main player. He has not been at his best.

Palace were far the better side against Burnley and I did not feel I was looking at a group of players who downed tools or did not believe in their manager.

Now they have chosen the right man. Are the players' brains going to be scrambled? Hodgson will simplify the game. Do this, don't do that. That is how he manages his club sides. All I see from Palace now is how Fulham were under Hodgson.

Crystal Palace v Southampton (12:30 BST)

So will Roy get Crystal Palace firing? Surely their squad is good enough to show better than what we are seeing at the moment?

Interestingly, Hodgson's last Premier League club saw him deliver his best win percentage as he took three points in 36% of his matches at West Brom before leaving in 2012.

And with that Rocky stat, I think we've adequately rounded up today's games. We will have more preview content at half-time and at 14:00 BST when the live text for this afternoon's games begins. For now, back to Selhurst Park where warm-ups are nearing their conclusion.

The way today's fixtures shape up means victory against Manchester City would make Watford top-flight leaders for the first time since September 1982.

Number one in the UK charts at the time?

    Eye of the Tiger.

There you go, get that Rocky soundtrack blasting Watford fans. This is your time.

  9. Young Toon build solid start...published at 12:08 British Summer Time 16 September 2017

    Newcastle v Stoke (15:00 BST)

Newcastle entertain Stoke off the back of a fine win at Swansea City last Sunday. It may not be headline-grabbing stuff but the Toon are doing decent things with a young squad.

The average age of their starting line-up this season has been 25 years and 223 days - the youngest in the Premier League. And they could win three of their opening five Premier League fixtures for the first time since 2000-01, when they went on to finish 11th.

Trust in youth then? And they should fancy their chances today as Stoke have only managed three wins in their last 15 league matches, and two in their last 14 away from home. That said, Mark Hughes' side are unbeaten in three and held Manchester United last time out.

Southampton have only scored in one of their four Premier League matches this season of course. Saints fans, should Manolo Gabbiadini be in the side? I do like Shane Long as he's such a willing runner but is that enough?

Despite their difficulties in recent weeks, Southampton can be fifth in the table by the time the 15:00 BST games kick off if they win here.

  14. Hats off Davispublished at 11:55 British Summer Time 16 September 2017

Crystal Palace v Southampton (12:30 BST)

Interesting to see Dusan Tadic back in the fold. Southampton didn't have a shot on target until the 92nd minute against Watford last week. There's no doubt he can pick a pass so maybe he will open up the hosts.

And kudos Steven Davis on your 200th Premier League appearance.

We will continue our trip around the grounds before today's fixtures but first a little breaking team news.

Roy Hodgson makes one change as he enters game one of his tenure at Crystal Palace. Ruben Loftus-Cheek is fit again so Lee Chung-yong drops to the bench. It looks like a 4-3-3- setup. That's what Frank de Boer used last time out, a contrast to him using 3-5-2 earlier in the campaign.

Southampton make four changes, Maya Yoshida, Mario Lemina, Dusan Tadic and Shane Long are in. Virgil van Dijk is among the substitutes.

  16. Pace not possessionpublished at 11:43 British Summer Time 16 September 2017

    Huddersfield v Leicester (15:00 BST)

    Jamie VardyImage source, Getty Images

Leicester are very much looking to hit teams on the break this season it seems. Either that or they just aren't very good at keeping the ball.

I say this because they have averaged just 37% possession this season. The pace of Jamie Vardy on the break remains critical then and he has been involved in 14 goals during 17 league matches under Craig Shakespeare.

But Huddersfield's boss David Wagner is well across this threat, stating this week: "This is the first opponent that we play that has this threat of speed in behind, and for this we have to find solutions.

"We are aware of what is in front of us and I think we will be prepared. We know exactly what we have to avoid so they are not able to show their strength."

Mark Taylor: 128 years 4 M'Boro to win a cup & qualify for Euro Comp. Not prepared to wait another 128 yrs for another cup or Euro Comp.

Aimee Protheroe: Waited my entire life for Wales to qualify for a tournament then was volunteering in Nepal & missed the whole thing.

    Owen Hargreaves
Former Bayern Munich midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

“I am sure Roy Hodgson will not play out from the back. Palace’s best players are up top. Goalkeeping is the massive issue for that team. Having played a different style in the past and then trying to get your centre-backs to play out is embarrassing and ridiculous. It is not de boer problems, that is up to the board. They will now try and get crosses up to Christian Benteke and e the ball in the box.

“Trying to change a philisophy after four games is ridiculous. They have had managers who have escaped relegation. They tried to change the style now how to go back being pragmatic. I feel sorry for the players."
