Johnny Magrinho: Tadic is playing a blinder today. At the heart of every attacking move. Massively underrated player.

Anükram Adhikary: Frank de Boer sacking was a farce. And what amazing things will Roy Hodgson bring anyway? They are already a goal down, at home.

Behn Graham: If Hodgson loses his first 4 games will he get sacked too?

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Southampton

Jason Puncheon slides in on Steven Davis to win the ball, the home fans liked that but possession is quickly lost once more. Southampton build, in comes a cross, headed clear by Scott Dann. Again the ball is recycled, Nathan Redmond hits from 30 yards, saved and gathered.

Oriel Romeu has a pop from range but the ball is blocked, allowing Palace to reset as they win a free-kick deep in their own half. No hint of passing it short, it's pumped forward. Not easy on the eye at all so far from the home side. My stats show they have played 61 passes compared to 109 for the visitors.

It was a big chance! Fraser Forster sticks up a hand in the end and it will be regarded as a great save.

It was instinctive from Benteke and it could have been and probably should have been, 1-1.

What a chance for Christian Benteke. Neat link up sees Andros Townsend play Ruben Loftus-Cheek into the box and his low cut-back has to be finished. Somehow Benteke's prod is saved by the chest of Fraser Forster from point-blank range.

The opening 15 minutes show how little ball Crystal Palace have seen. Andros Townsend is getting a lot of attention when he's in possession. As a ball is fizzed into him Ryan Bertrand is into the challenge fast.

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Southampton

Southampton are popping it about with confidence as a lengthy move ends with a cross from near the corner flag being defended in the area by Scott Dann. Crystal Palace have not really started at all and look disjointed to say the least.

Looking at replays of the goal, Dusan Tadic went past Jeffrey Schlupp like he wasn't there. Tame stuff.

Crystal Palace are leaving only Christian Benteke up when they don't have the ball.

Shane Long looks to make a diagonal ball count but heads well wide from a full 18 yards. That type of header can only be scored by Dion Dublin or the world would stop spinning.

He's quite tricky Andros Townsend at his best, but he lost his balance a little then.

He's been capped for England and there was much speculation and interest in him on transfer deadline day but he is here now and needs to be settled.

Uproar as Wesley Hoedt appears to upend Andros Townsend but the referee waves play on.

Palace arrow another long ball at Christian Benteke which again gets dealt with.

It was a bit of a messy goal. Wayne Hennessey couldn't hold it and he punched it straight into the penalty box.

It was just the start the away team (Southampton) needed to give them confidence.

It will be fascinating to see the response from Crystal Palace. Interesting start!

    Steven Davis

The new manager comes in, outlines his message, keep it tight and all that. Erm... not quite.

Southampton have the ball down and play a bit and Steven Davis rolls Dusan Tadic into the area with a pass. His cross-shot is parried and falls back to the on-rushing Davis 12 yards out. Side foot finish. Joel Ward on the line dangles a foot out but gets nothing.

Southampton have their first goal since 19 August.

Joel Ward goes into the mixer with a diagonal ball towards Christian Benteke... good strong header by Cedric Soares.

    Crystal Palace 0-0 Southampton

Noise aplenty in this traditional ground. Yohan Cabaye puts a press on Steven Davis in midfield as Southampton win a throw. They move the ball from right to left, Ryan Bertrand has it. Another switch of play and Cedric Soares crosses. Some pinball around the edge of the area and Davis has a pop, it's tame and dribbles to the keeper.

  20. 'Hodgson will bring discipline and structure'published at 12:28 British Summer Time 16 September 2017

Crystal Palace v Southampton (12:30 BST)

    Mark Schwarzer
    Ex-Fulham keeper on Football Focus

On former Fulham manager Roy Hodgson: "It's going to be really structured. He'll bring in discipline and a system that everyone will know how to play.

"Crystal Palace need to stop conceding goals and be more organised. Frank de Boer tried to play too much football and those players weren't quite up for it.

"With the players that he has he will be fine. He has a core group of players that has experience. I think the players will respond really quickly.

"Once they have discipline and shape, they will be allowed to show that individual flair."
