    PASS IT!

Oh dear me, Arsenal should be 2-0 up. Lewis Dunk has a horrorshow at the back for Brighton, slipping while fielding a backpass, and Arsenal are in two on one.

Alexandre Lacazette is one, and instead of playing in the second, Alexis Sanchez, he goes for goal and curls a shot at Mat Ryan.

    What a waste...

    Arsenal 1-0 Brighton

Referee Kevin Friend gets unnecessarily picky about the placing of the ball for an Arsenal free-kick, but it matters little as Granit Xhaka's shot hits the wall anyway.

Aaron Ramsey dances into the penalty area after some good interplay but the Albion backline stand tall.

Keep the dream alive Afam - Brighton have been very good since going a goal down, they back themselves to get a goal. Although the next effort on goal is a fluffed toe-poke from Alex Iwobi, before Jose Izquierdo worries the corner flag with a 30-yard slice for Brighton.

Good response from the visitors, into the Arsenal box once more and Petr Cech isn't mega convincing as he flaps a cross away under pressure. Glenn Murray will enjoy watching that from the bench. Solly March then wins a corner.

Arsenal better without Ozil?published at 12:23 British Summer Time 1 October 2017

Sorry to say it but Arsenal look so much more compact and willing to fight for each other than when they continually worry about passing to Ozil all the time.

    Nick from Swindon.

Have Arsenal hit on a winning formula? Much better without Ozil. Shame for him, as this is the ideal type of flat track that he thrives on.

    Arsenal 1-0 Brighton

Brighton are indeed having very little possession, just 22% so far. But they do counter well here as Izzy Brown finds Jose Izquierdo on the left, he drifts past a man in red and finds Davy Propper, who is fouled.

They roll the free-kick to Solly March, who smashes a shot against the post! What a hit, 20 yards out, clean as a whistle!

I would have been tempted to copy Arsenal's system if I was Brighton manager.

I would have been tempted to play three centre-backs and try and push wing backs forward because Arsenal have unrivaled possession and Izzy Brown can't deal with the Arsenal threesome in defence.

That means Arsenal are able to comfortably build attacks.

That's Nacho Monreal's first league goal for Arsenal since March 2013. He should get on the phone to Saido Berahino.

The free-kick does bring a goal! Granit Xhaka's ball to the far post is headed back by Alexandre Lacazette and Shkodran Mustafi has a shot cleared off the line. In it goes again, Nacho Monreal chests the ball down and sweeps home right-footed!

Brighton protest - they thought the ball had gone out at one stage, but it looks good.

It's 21 years today, that Arsene taught the band to play. It's the anniversary of Wenger in, and his current crop are playing a familiar tune so far. Patient possession, with the back three even in the Brighton half most of the time. Alex Iwobi is the latest to thread a low shot at Mat Ryan after good play from Alexis Sanchez.

Interesting to see how Arsenal will fare without Ozil again, as they seem to have improved since he got injured. Hoping to see Lacazette and Sanchez combine to score some wonderful goals today.

Arsenal haven't scored too many - only nine this season.

They will see this game as an opportunity to get some goals.

Brighton will sit deep and Arsenal will have a lot of possession. Whether they can penetrate them, we will see.

It was a thunderous 25-yard drive from Lacazette. I think the pattern is already set for the game.

There has been a lot of Arsenal pressure early on.
