Richard: All well and good people saying Swansea were unlucky with decisions but they seem to have missed the fact that the referee failed to give Spurs two penalties and could easily have sent off van der Hoorn. Works both ways.

Barnesy: People saying Swansea were hard done by with the ref decisions. What about Dele getting two hands in the back when through on goal? Stonewall penalty.

Chris: It's looking like any three from the bottom 19 could go down.

Watford

Watford boss Marco Silva: "We did everything in a different way to how we prepared. We were too soft in the first 20 minutes.

"Too much respect and some nerves. I told them to compete here, the first thing we need to do is not be scared or nervous.

"We had chances. The last 20 minutes we were better. We need to compete for the whole 90 minutes.

"Congratulations to Manchester City, what they are doing is amazing. Pep Guardiola is showing he can do his philosophy in the Premier League."

Southampton

Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It is a difficult game for us to digest because in the first half it was completely different and we were talking about how to score the second goal, but we gave them the possibility to score a couple of goals because we played backwards and sometimes we played too deep. My player's confidence will be down but that is normal. We must learn how to play this type of game, especially when the conditions are like that.

"I think in the second half our goal was to keep the ball and try to keep possession in the opposition half, but the concern for me now is lack of confidence. Pressure is part of our job, I understand people are disappointed like us but when one side are winners the other must be losers."

On the transfer window: "We know we need to bounce back in this moment. I think we have to do something to try to improve our squad, not just tactically but to improve confidence. I am responsible, like all the parts of this club, but I know that we have got a base and good players and good feelings to bounce back in this moment."

Crystal Palace

But there is bad news for Crystal Palace with Scott Dann and Jason Puncheon out for the remainder of the season because of injury.

"Dann and Puncheon are both cruciate ligament injuries," added Hodgson. "They'll both see a specialist and likely undergo surgery once the swelling goes.

"We won't see them play again this season and may not be ready for the start of next. They're very serious injuries."

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson: "The players deserve enormous credit to get four points from the program that we’ve had, with such short recovery time. I thought in the first half the pitch was quite heavy and didn’t suit the type of football we like to play, but we certainly got over that in second half. Today we got the full reward for our efforts and our players deserve enormous credit for their work.

"We knew it would be tough for our midfield, Cabaye we know is a magnificent player but we knew it’d be difficult for him to get 90 minutes so at half time we brought him off and hoped Patrick and Wilfried would lead to more domination in their half. Luckily the changes worked for us and I was happy with how it worked out in the end.

"We work hard at our game and set high standards for ourselves. I am demanding, the players are demanding on themselves and we go into every game knowing we aren’t beaten. We’ve lost one in 11 which is pretty good by any standard, let alone when you are near the bottom of the table"

On transfers: "It's far too soon to say, we didn’t know until today that Scott had injured a cruciate ligament but the Chairman and Directors are keen to improve our squad to ensure we have what we need. Hopefully our performances have shown that if we get that backing it'll make us even stronger in this run in."

West Brom manager Alan Pardew, speaking to BBC Match of the Day, responds to an incident in the second half when midfielder Jake Livermore was involved in an altercation with a fan shortly after being substituted.

"I see Jake the crowd, but there is now way he is going in the crowd unless he is provoked."

Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola on Gabriel Jesus injury: "He will be out for between four to six weeks, or a little bit longer, but hopefully as soon as possible."

West Ham manager David Moyes, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: It was so important as it could have gone either way. The first half was not good, but the second half was much more like it. We got the reward for keeping at it.

"Our hopes are not to be in the relegation positions, but we are in there. I am told it is the first time the club has come from behind since we moved to the stadium.

On goal scorer Andy Carroll: I don’t think any centre half would be able to deal with his jump and header. The second goal was good play on the break and the ball was played across goal and Andy scores from a tight angle. If he hadn’t scored, I would have said he still played well tonight.

On West Brom having to play two games in three days: If I was Alan Pardew I would be completely disappointed with the way it has been set up for them. We play again in two days, but at least Tottenham are in the same position.

Manchester City

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola praised Kevin de Bruyne, who left on a stretcher two days ago against Palace but played a crucial role in today's win.

"Kevin has an inflammation and we said maybe you stay back and don't play but he said he wanted to play," said Guardiola.

"He had a bit of pain but he wanted to play. It showed me a lot. He wants to win the Premier League. We want to follow him in this behaviour."

Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola told BBC Match of the Day that the festive period is "going to kill the players".

He said: "We played really well. After dropping two points, we spoke about our reaction because big teams drop points but not too much.

"We made five changes from the last game but it's not our fault. I know here in England the show must go on, but that’s not normal guys. The big bosses should reflect that.

"We’re going to kill the players. The federations don’t think about the players but they have to. They play 11 months in a row. They have to protect them and play with quality and not quality. We have to think about the artists. But I know it won’t happen.

"Watford scored because they have good players. We will review the action but people can not expect us to win 7-0 every time."

West Brom manager Alan Pardew, speaking to Sky Sports: "The two day turnaround has cost us in the end and we ran out of legs and could not keep going. It was heart-breaking for the players. It is such a disappointment to concede a goal like that.

"We were better in the first half, but we conceded too much possession in the second half and the turnaround has done for us.

"We were unfortunate to lose Matty Phillips in the warm up. We had players hanging at the end. I tried to freshen things up, but it was difficult and they had more energy than us and it showed."

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, speaking about Fernando Llorente's opener: "You need luck to score and win, yes. But after 90 minutes I think it’s clear we were better and deserved the points."

On the game overall: "The first half was so difficult to play football. The weather was horrible but we dominated and tried to play football. We did enough to go in winning. Overall I think we were better and deserved the three points. I think the effort and the circumstances were tough but I was pleased.

"When you don’t kill games sometimes you pay and one thing can change everything so we were anxious to score the second. It was late in the game but we felt the happiness and the three points was massive. Now we rest and work in the video room because we have another game so soon."

On Victor Wanyama's return: "It's important he’s back after a lot of months. It gives us more options to play and he was very important for us last season.

"Sanchez was in a difficult situation. The fans started to put pressure on the referee and the clever thing was to take him off and take away any problem."

Swansea City

Swansea boss Carlos Carvalhal: "What I've seen is that I have a team with character and quality. They are brave and they fight for the points with discipline.

"Let's see if we can get one or two players in the market but if not the players we have will be brave and show commitment. I am a happy coach with my team. We can achieve points."

On Fernando Llorente's opener, which appeared to be scored from an offside position, Carvalhal added: The linesman apologised for the (off-side) goal early in the match.”

West Ham goal scorer Andy Carroll speaking to Sky Sports: "It has been a while, it has been a while since I started, but it was good to get on the pitch and get a goal and I am obviously relieved.

"It was a tough game. We are disappointed with the goal we have gave away, but we had to keep the ball and keep pushing them and we did that and got the goals.

"It was tough, I was tired at the end, but if I didn’t get into the box at the end I would have been given some stick by the staff.

"We are on a decent run and the fans deserve that."

Paul: So the Swansea game should have been goalless with Swansea playing against ten men with 30 minutes to go. Instead, 1-0 down against 11. When will officials be accountable?

Akintunde: I hope the Premier League attach video technology to each referee's face, Swansea deserved better.

The whistle goes and Manchester City start 2018 with a win. They move 15 points clear at the top of the table.
