  1. CLOSE!published at 20:07 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2018

    Man City 1-0 Watford

Really should be 2-0 to Manchester City as Leroy Sane pulls the ball back for John Stones but the defender puts his shot up into row Z.

Watford being pulled apart all over the pitch.

Samuel: Llorente's goal is clearly offside. Unfair to the Swans.

Matt: Don’t understand why players don’t celebrate against former clubs. Llorente is hardly a Swansea City legend.

You might think Federico Fernandez would know how good Fernando Llorente is in the air, what with the two having faced each other in training every day last season.

However, the Argentine centre-back got the wrong side of his former Swans team-mate and allowed Llorente to head in from what appeared to be an offside position.

Fernando Llorente didn't have to do much at all, he's just used his height and strength. Eriksen delivers the in-swinging free-kick and it has flown past Fabianski. He doesn't celebrate, of course, he was a huge part of securing Swansea's safety last season.

It has been very difficult for Swansea so far, Spurs have started magnificently.

The goal was coming and Fernando Llorente didn't celebrate against his former club. That's Llorente's first Premier League goal for Tottenham.

I don't want to bang on about it but the conditions are truly awful and it's bound to affect the game as a spectacle. Also spare a thought for those sitting in the lower tier around the Liberty Stadium they're getting absolutely soaked.

Tottenham deserve the goal and it could be a long night for Swansea.

    I'll start constructing the ark.

SOUND THE SHANE LONG HAS SCORED KLAXON!

It's the day many thought would never arrive as Long strikes for the first time since February last year.

For someone who has endured such a lengthy goal drought it is a very tidy finish as sweeps Jeremy Pied's cross into the top corner.

We've got a goal at the Etihad.

No messing about as Manchester City take just 40 seconds to take the lead, Raheem Sterling finishing at the far post from Leroy Sane's cross.

Could be a very long night for Watford.

  9. When Watford would have topped the table...published at 20:00 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2018

Believe it or not, Watford would have gone top of the table if they had won their game against Manchester City on 16 September - when, along with Pep Guardiola’s side and Manchester United, the Hornets were one of only three unbeaten sides in the top flight. A 6-0 defeat swiftly ended that particular dream.

Unlike their hosts tonight, Marco Silva’s men have not sustained their superb start - they are 34 points behind the leaders and a win would only send them ninth.

As well as the form book, history is not exactly on their side - Watford’s last win against City in the top flight was in April 1987 and they have not managed a league goal at the Etihad Stadium or Maine Road since Gary Porter scored in November 1988.

  10. CLOSE!published at 20:00 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2018

    West Ham 0-0 West Brom

Hesitancy in the West Ham defence almost proves costly for the hosts. Salomon Rondon uses his strength to turn his marker while another defender backs off, giving the West Brom man space to shoot and he attempts a lob that lands on the roof of the net.

This game has a goal from a defensive error written all over it. Both sides look suspect at the back.

This is absolutely woeful. It's raining heavy, the wind is swirling around, it's horrible. I know it's the same for both sets of players but it could potential spoil what could be a really good game of football tonight.

Luke: As much as the managers moan about the fixture list perhaps they should reassess how and when they train their players between games. The players should already be fit enough but I've seen enough pictures of teams out on training pitches daily to suggest the managers still think the only way to prepare for games is to sprint through cones repeatedly.

Matt: Bewilders me as to how managers can complain about the winter schedule. People like Pardew and Mourinho have been in the Prem long enough to know that's the way it is - as a United fan it infuriates me to see Mourinho whinging with that sized squad at his disposal.

    Swansea 0-0 Tottenham

It's the sort of night at Swansea where you'd rather be tucked up inside polishing off the last of the Christmas chocolates than out on a football pitch. Wet and windy, which is probably having a say on the quality of football we've seen so far. Low.

The St Mary's pitch has clearly seen a lot of rain in recent days and is not looking at its best.

It means the football hasn't been very fluid so far, with that early Shane Long chance the best we've seen inside the first few minutes.

When Manchester City met Watford on a sunny afternoon in September, it was the last time they were not top of the Premier League table.

Sergio Aguero’s hat-trick in a 6-0 win helped put Pep Guardiola’s side top above Manchester United by virtue of the alphabet by the end of that weekend, and they have not been off the summit since.

Now, 108 days later, on a wet winter night in Manchester, it is 12 points rather than 18 letters that separate City from the chasing pack - and another win will extend that advantage at the start of the new year.
