Harry Kane might want to wrap up warm on Tottenham's bench tonight because it's a horrible night in Swansea.

The rain is torrential and the swirling wind means every corner of the Liberty Stadium is soaked.

I may be spending a fair bit of this game wiping my laptop screen dry.

  2. A late change for the Baggiespublished at 19:44 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2018

West Ham v West Brom (19:45 GMT)

A late change for West Brom as Jake Livermore comes in for Matt Phillips, who appears to have picked up a knock while warming up.

That means Gareth Barry, who was not in the squad and had come along to watch the game, steps up to the bench.

Let's hope Bazza didn't snaffle a pre-match pie if he wasn't expecting to be involved.

If Watford have a terrible record against Manchester City, one member of their starting line-up will never forget them.

No matter what Ben Watson achieves for the remainder of his career, it is unlikely to match his last-minute FA Cup final winner for Wigan against City at Wembley in 2013.

Unlike that famous day, when he came on as an 81st-minute substitute, tonight Watson starts.

Southampton enter a big month, starting with this game. Mauricio Pellegrino's future as manager probably hangs on the transfer business from Virgil van Dijk's record move and results in the next few weeks.

Saints have only won three league games at home since beating Palace 3-1 in April and, having become established as a top-half side since their return to the Premier League, the club has slipped back a step. They're at a crossroads.

Palace have been in a relegation fight all season, but it's remarkable how quickly they got back among the pack.

Roy Hodgson doesn't have a vast choice of players. One wonders how much the draw with Manchester City will have taken out of them barely 48 hours before this game?

Dave: I've not been the refs' biggest fan recently but here's a thought. Managers are moaning about the festive fixture list and tired players. Has anyone considered that the refs might be equally as tired and therefore more prone to mistakes?

Are managers right to complain about the congested fixture list? Not in John Hartson's view...

If you rest properly, eat the right food and refuel in the right way, I wouldn't think there is too much of a problem. I think it balances itself out over the course of a season, you hear managers such as Mourinho and Pardew complaining about it but just get on with it.

  8. Fixture congestion a disaster - Guardiolapublished at 19:34 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2018

Man City v Watford (20:00 GMT)

The Premier League's congested schedule is a "disaster" for players, says Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.

City, who have a 12-point lead in the table with a game in hand, play their fourth match in 11 days over the holiday period tonight.

Guardiola saw key players Gabriel Jesus and Kevin de Bruyne suffer injuries at Crystal Palace on Sunday.

"If you tell me that technically, physically it's good for the players: no, it's a disaster," Guardiola said.

City confirmed on Monday that Jesus had suffered a medial collateral ligament injury and would "undergo further examinations to establish the extent of his lay-off".

The teams are out here and if anything the weather is getting worse, the rain is still swirling around the Liberty Stadium, the ground staff are forking the pitch but the surface looks okay despite the battering it’s taken.

The conditions could play into Swansea’s hands and a win tonight could see them rise off the bottom.

It's only the second day of the January transfer window but moves are already being made in the market.

One today sees Netherlands international defender Terence Kongolo swap Monaco for Huddersfield after joining the Terriers on loan for the remainder of the season.

A very good signing for Huddersfield, who are 11th in the Premier League.

West Ham and West Brom both changed their manager in November but start the new year in the bottom three.

If David Moyes can keep getting a tune out of Marko Arnautovic then the Hammers have a crucial creative spark. He's scored five goals in as many top-flight games but, given his overall Premier League record, it's tough to see him maintaining that form until May. West Ham will need to add quality to their already inflated squad in January but their need for match-winners isn't as great as Albion's.

The Baggies will be glad to see the back of 2017 after seven league wins all year, and it's now over four months since the last one arrived.

It's game number eight for Pardew, so victory at one of his former stomping grounds would be very welcome.

New year, new hope for West Brom fans that they might actually see their team win a Premier League game.

The Baggies are winless in 19 top-flight fixtures - only three clubs have endured longer runs without a victory in the Premier League: Derby with 32, Sunderland with 26 and Norwich with 21.

Moody Marko is the man in form for West Ham with five goals in his last five Premier League games and tonight he’ll play with Andy Carroll who starts in the league for the first time since the 24 November.

Alan Pardew’s made four changes to his West Brom team, three in midfield, to make sure there’s some fresh legs in there to do the running having finished their game against Arsenal just over 48 hours ago.

West Ham haven’t played since Boxing Day so that has to give them a huge advantage tonight in a crucial clash at the bottom of the table.

  15. Odds against a Watford winpublished at 19:15 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2018

    Man City v Watford (20:00GMT)

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the Etihad Stadium

Manchester City have won the last seven meetings with Watford by a combined score of 26-3.

In the last two victories alone, it has been 11-0.

The last City boss to lose a home game against the Hornets was Jimmy Frizzell back in 1987.

Since then, Mel Machin, Brian Horton and Frank Clark have managed the Citizens.

I somehow think Watford might struggle against a team managed by Pep Guardiola.

Crystal Palace had a go, and I'd expect Watford to adopt a similar approach in the hope of catching Manchester City slightly out of sorts again in the midst of this busy run of games.

I've always had a feeling that when City finally do see their unbeaten Premier League run of more than a year ended, it will be in this type of match rather than one of the 'bigger' ones.

Maybe not this one specifically though. The Hornets have been struggling for results, and even with City now picking up injuries, Pep Guardiola is still able to pick a strong starting line-up.

Swansea City v Tottenham (19:45 GMT)

This game is the main commentary game on BBC Radio 5 live tonight, and here's a reminder of the team news.

Swansea have made three changes with captain Angel Rangel back in the team, replacing the suspended Kyle Naughton.

Nathan Dyer also returns with Roque Mesa dropping to the bench and Mike van der Hoorn also comes into the side, while striker Tammy Abraham is not fit for selection.

Mauricio Pochettino, meanwhile, has decided to leave Harry Kane on the bench, with the England striker still suffering from a cold.

Kieran Trippier and Ben Davies return to the XI with Serge Aurier and Danny Rose missing out.

Fernando Llorente and Erik Lamela also start as Kane and Mousa Dembele miss out.

Victor Wanyama is on the bench for the first time since suffering a knee injury in August.
