What a break through the gears! Manchester City go from box to box in no time at all, Kevin de Bruyne carrying the ball a long way, David Silva flicks it to Sergio Aguero first time like an All Black fly-half.

Aguero's cross from the left is not the best but it almost drops in, landing on the face of the crossbar!

I love the fact Bristol City want to play out from the back, it's admirable. But they've got to be more precise if they're going to do it from the edge of their box. They have to stay in the tie until at least half-time. Man City press high and sometimes you have to recognise that, go a bit longer and clear your lines.

Ouch that hurts, Nicolas Otamendi and Liam Walsh go in for a sliding 50/50. Otamendi catches the Bristol City man in the face with his studs. No intent but plenty of pain but the on-loan Everton man is able to continue.

The hosts' striker Bobby Reid bumped in to a few members of the press in one of the stadium's corridors about four hours before kick-off and he said: "The atmosphere is going to be jokes!"

That's one way to describe it! Come on you Reds echoes around the ground.

This is one-way traffic at its very best. It's exhausting just watching.

Bristol City were able to break with purpose and intent at the Etihad and they haven't managed to do that once yet in front of their own fans.

Utter dominance from the Premier League leaders but no shots on target to note yet. patient build-up and steady stretching of the play the order of the day thus far.

Bristol City - who showed no nerves at the Etihad in the first leg whatsoever - do look a bit nervy so far tonight.

Leroy Sane, who skinned five Newcastle defenders to pick up a ludicrous assist at the weekend, dances down the left and puts in a good cross which is almost hacked into his own net by Aden Flint but it drifts away for a corner.

Lovely ball from Oleksandr Zinchenko, who looks another find for Manchester City at left-back. He's a midfielder by trade I reckon, but the full-backs tuck in so much he basically plays in centre mid most of the time. Manchester City controlling all of the possession.

John Stones gives away a foul from that early corner and Pep Guardiola looks furious inside a minute. Manchester City are starting on top, as you'd expect.

Three years ago last weekend, Bristol City were playing away at Scunthorpe in League One. The club was in the doldrums.

Scenes like this were scarcely imaginable back then. The colour and the anticipation around Ashton Gate are equally bright.

Bristol City manager, Lee Johnson, speaking on 5 Live: "I want to see boldness in our play. It'll be difficult because they've picked a very good side. We've got to get tight, make sure we disrupt and play in our own style. We'll have some opportunities, we have to capitalise on those moments and if we score the first goal, trust me, this place will erupt.

"It makes me very envious of the players, I wish I was playing. It'll be a great learning experience for them. But you kind of have to score off the fact that they're world-class players and remember it's 11 humans against 11 humans, and make sure we perform to the best of our ability. If we do that then we'll have an opportunity."

People get sniffy about this sort of thing, clapper and flags etc, as it 'forces' an atmosphere. But it looks and sounds absolutely superb tonight.

Ashton Gate is absolutely rocking, thousands of silver and red flags are being waved in the stands, the mascot is in the crowd.
