Teams from outside the top flight reaching the EFL Cup final is no new thing - just ask Bradford City, Cardiff City and Birmingham City fans, for starters.

But to get there by beating the Premier League leaders and four other top-flight sides?

The feeling around Bristol is that that would deserve legendary status.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche has signed a new contract, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2021-22 season.

The 46-year-old has been in charge at Turf Moor since 2012, winning 97 of his 245 matches.

He has also led the Clarets to two promotions from the Championship into the Premier League.

"I am quite young in management terms," said Dyche. "I am still learning and still improving, I believe, so I think it is the right place to be."

Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne has signed a new deal that runs until 2023.

The Premier League leaders have tied the 26-year-old playmaker down to a longer deal, despite his previous contract not expiring until 2021.

De Bruyne has scored six goals and provided 10 assists in the top flight this season.

The Belgium international is City's record signing after joining for £55m from Wolfsburg in August 2015.

In his programme notes tonight, Lee Johnson has urged his side to take their chance to become heroes.

The 36-year-old head coach knows his team have to score at least once tonight to stand any chance.

His side have managed eight goals in three home games against Premier League opposition already this season - the same number that eighth-placed Burnley have managed in 12 home league games this term.

But, given the ruthless nature of this Manchester City side, even three more Robins goals tonight may well not be enough.

  9. No VAR tonightpublished at 18:48 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2018

Bristol City v Man City (1-2 Agg, 19:45 GMT)

There is no VAR for us to worry about tonight - but managers should be given power to use it to challenge major decisions, says Notts County boss Kevin Nolan.

The ex-West Ham and Bolton midfielder says he "does not like" the way VAR has been trialled in England so far.

His solution is to allow both managers one unsuccessful challenge per match.

    Media caption,

    How does VAR work?

"You won't have as many stops, possibly only two. Once you've got it wrong, as a manager you have to say 'right, keep schtum and trust the referee', he said.

"Give managers a flag to say we want something reviewing. That stops the game right away.

"What it [the review] will do is tell the referee that he got something that he's seen spot on and that will give him a confidence boost, or they will go 'fair enough you have seen something different, so let's have a look at it'."

Can a team from the Championship really win the League Cup?

Well, it's 27 years since one did - John Sheridan's volley won the then Rumbelows Cup for Sheffield Wednesday in 1991.

In more recent times Cardiff were losing finalists in 2012, while Bradford made it all the way to the final in 2013 while in League Two!

Sergio Aguero scored an injury-time winner as Manchester City came from behind to beat Bristol City in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg last month.

The Championship side were excellent, especially in the first half, and led from Bobby Reid's penalty, awarded after John Stones chopped down the Robins player.

But Kevin de Bruyne equalised for the unbeaten Premier League leaders after a one-two with Raheem Sterling.

And as the underdogs looked set to take a draw and an away goal back to Bristol for the second leg, substitute Aguero headed in Bernardo Silva's cross.
