Spurs are one of four teams still unbeaten in this season's Champions League, alongside Barcelona, Besiktas and Liverpool.

Juventus are unbeaten in their past 22 Champions League home games (W14 D8), their longest such run. Bayern Munich were the last team to beat them in Turin, back in April 2013.

This is the first competitive meeting between Juve and Spurs.

Juventus warmed up for this game with a 2-0 win over Fiorentina (in football, not rugby despite what this picture suggests)

Juventus are arguably Europe's form side. They have won 11 games in a row and almost unbelievably only conceded one goal in their last 16 games.

In a rare twist, they aren't top of Serie A, but that's only because Napoli have been so impressive.

Massimiliano Allegri's side are only one point off top after winning 20 of their 24 league games so far.

They are still in the running for a treble, and are in the Italian Cup semi-finals against Atalanta, where they have won the first leg 1-0.

    Juventus v Tottenham (19:45 GMT)

Two changes for Tottenham from the side that started the 1-0 win over Arsenal on Saturday.

Erik Lamela replaces Son Heung-min, while Serge Aurier starts in place of Kieran Trippier.

Tottenham XI: Lloris, Aurier, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Davies, Dier, Dembele, Eriksen, Alli, Lamela, Kane.

And two changes too for Juventus from their last game - a 2-0 win over Fiorentina last Friday.

In come defender Mattia de Sciglio and Brazilian forward Douglas Costa, who is on loan from Bayern Munich. Stephan Lichtsteiner and Claudio Marchisio make way.

Juventus XI: Buffon, De Sciglio, Benatia, Chiellini, Alex Sandro, Khedira, Pjanic, Bernardeschi, Costa, Mandzukic, Higuain.

Never write off Lionel Messi in a race to be top scorer. Ronaldo’s Real won’t last beyond this round and Messi has the quality to score hat-tricks against anyone in the competition.

Manchester City cruised through Group F, winning the first five games before losing a dead rubber against Shakhtar Donetsk on the final day. That is one of only two defeats all season. They beat Serie A leaders Napoli twice along the way.

Manchester opponents are nothing new to FC Basel, who finished second in Group A behind United. The Swiss side - who beat the Red Devils at home - clinched their place in the last 16 thanks to a 2-0 win over Benfica in their final game.

Basel v Man City (19:45 GMT)

Just two changes for Manchester City from the team that demolished Leicester City 5-1 at the weekend.

In comes captain Vincent Kompany and Fabian Delph, while Aymeric Laporte drops to the bench and Oleksandr Zinchenko misses out all together.

Pep Guardiola has gone with a strong bench in Switzerland, with Leroy Sane and David Silva returning from injury.

Dimitri Oberlin, on loan from Red Bull Salzburg, leads the Basel line tonight..

The Swiss striker has scored four goals in his last five Champions League games.

Taulant Xhaka, the elder brother of Arsenal midfielder Granit, starts at centre-back.

Spurs were highly impressive in the group stages, winning five of their six games - and drawing the other - to top a group containing back-to-back champions Real Madrid - and 1997 winners Borussia Dortmund.

No team qualified by as many points, 14 clear of third, as Spurs.

Juventus finished second in a group containing Barcelona - but did not seal their qualification until the final game, when they beat Olympiakos 2-0.

Welcome to a cold Turin where Tottenham Hotspur face Juventus in the first leg of the last 16.

For Spurs the main news is that Toby Alderweireld hasn't travelled. Pochettino said he had a "nice two-hour conversation" with the defender before the Liverpool match and said "he needs to be 200% fit to compete for one place in the starting 11."

We expect the centre-back to play against Rochdale on Sunday in the FA Cup and despite the manager's comments you get the feeling something isn't right between those two at minute.

As for Juventus they arrive tonight in good form. They have won their last 11 games in all competitions but some key players won't feature. Paulo Dybala, Juan Cuadrado, Andrea Barzagli and Blaise Matuidi are all missing from Massimo Allegri's squad.

Did you know that Mauricio Pochettino's great, great grandfather is from Italy? The Tottenham manager has been named as an honorary citizen of Virle Piemonte. Deputy mayor Daniele Pochettino made a 30-mile journey from the town to Turin to visit the Spurs manager yesterday where they posed for photos. It's believed they are distant relatives.

The pitch at St Jakob-Park is certainly looking much better than when I last saw it in November for Northern Ireland’s World Cup play-off against Switzerland when torrential rain turned it into an absolute mud bath worthy of a 1970s FA Cup tie.

Basel love playing English opposition on it though - they beat Manchester United here in the group stages, got the better of Liverpool in 2014 and actually did the double over Chelsea in the group stages in 2013.

They’re also fresh from a seven-week winter break in which time Manchester City played 13 matches but City still have to start as big favourites over the two legs considering the football they’ve been playing under Pep Guardiola this season.
