Porto defender Felipe: “It’s a different match, we need to be cohesive in the back and efficient in the front, score first and then see what the match brings us.

"We need to give our best in every match, regardless of the competition we are playing for.

"It’s the best way we have to improve. We have the objective of winning in England. There is always a first time.

"They had six opportunities [in the first leg] and scored five goals.

"At the start of the match, we were well, but then we conceded the first goal, and I believe the team felt the blow, we changed our style of play, and we ended up not being as aggressive as we should have.”

Liverpool will cruise through. Klopp sensible to rest his main men and keep the bench warmers happy. Great position for the Reds to be in.

Real Madrid have to go for it. They have great options on the bench, but they don't want PSG to get their tails up. Real should not leave too much on the bench.

Ex-Real Madrid keeper Bodo Illgner does not believe his old club will be too happy that Neymar is ruled out for Paris St-Germain.

“I don’t think it makes a big difference. If I was in the dressing room I wouldn’t care about their line-up at all. This is a great squad, there is no reason to look at the other side.

"If you look at the PSG side I think Angel di Maria will be very motivated against his old club. I have seen him have amazing matches for Real in the past. He’s a very good player and can be as strong as Neymar when he’s at his best.”

  6. 'We are ready'published at 19:35 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March 2018

Liverpool v Porto (19:45 GMT, 5-0 first leg)

    Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp speaking to BT Sport on Porto's chances: "In football a lot of things are possible but it should not happen. We are ready.

Johnny Magrinho: Has someone just said they think Liverpool will throw away the tie because we have Matip, Lovren & Moreno starting? Seriously behave they aren’t that bad. Moreno has vastly improved, Lovren has looked more stable in his last few games and Matip is a natural centre back!

Johnny Ward: Flew from Dubai to Bangkok just in time for the Liverpool game! Line up is strong for Liverpool against Porto, would have started Solanke and rested Firmino but Klopp is the boss! Come on you Redmen.

  9. Can PSG keep up 100% home record?published at 19:33 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March 2018

  10. Good omens for PSGpublished at 19:32 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March 2018

PSG v Real Madrid (19:45 GMT, 1-3 first leg)

A surprisingly high 33% of teams to have lost 3-1 away in the first leg of a Champions League knockout tie have progressed to the next round (four out of 12), including three of the last four.

Paris St-Germain have eliminated Real Madrid in their two previous knockout encounters (1992-93 Uefa Cup and 1993-94 Cup Winners Cup).

PSG have lost only one of their last 46 home games in European competition (W30 D15), against Barcelona in April 2015.

This is one of the photo opportunities for the fans under the Kenny Dalglish stand at Anfield, the team which last won the Champions League for Liverpool in Istanbul in 2005 and you can make a fair argument that Jurgen Klopp’s team would give them a pretty good game.

They’ve definitely got a shot at winning the club’s sixth European Cup given the firepower in their frontline but a lot will depend on keeping the key men fit and who they get in the draw.

First and foremost though they’ve got to finish the job tonight - don’t forget Barcelona lost the first leg 4-0 against PSG last season...

What a difference Van Dijk and Robertson make to our team. Have no faith whatsoever in that back four.

    Ellen, Manchester

Klopp's selection feels significant tonight. This back four imploded more than once in the first half of the season. Will that mental fragility and calamitous organisation resurface? I sure hope not.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson said in the match programme: “Before the game begins, everyone should look up at the scoreboard - because that will tell us everything we need to know about the mentality required for this contest.

"The scoreboard will read 0-0 - and that’s where all our heads have to be. It’s a brand new game, one where we have no lead or advantage and we have to go out there and win the individual and collective battles all over again, and try to win another really tough football match."

  14. Milner - the assist king of Europepublished at 19:28 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March 2018

Liverpool v Porto (19:45 GMT, 5-0 first leg)

Liverpool midfielder James Milner has delivered six assists in this season’s Champions League, more than any other player.

He’s only the third player to reach that total in a Champions League campaign over the last five seasons after Neymar and Ousmane Dembele (eight and six respectively last season).

It's actually seven if you count this year's qualifiers.

  16. Any hope for Porto?published at 19:27 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March 2018

Liverpool v Porto (19:45 GMT, 5-0 first leg)

Any FC Porto fans hoping for some good omens, you're not going to find any.

No team have ever progressed to the next round following a 5-0 home defeat in the first leg of a Champions League knockout tie.

Liverpool are unbeaten against Porto, having played them five times in all competitions (W3 D2).

Liverpool have never lost by more than two clear goals at Anfield in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Porto have never won a Champions League away game against an English side, drawing two and losing 10 of their 12 trips.

  17. 'Looking to defend the history of the club'published at 19:26 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March 2018

Liverpool v Porto (19:45 GMT, 5-0 first leg)

Porto boss Sergio Conceicao: "Everyone knows that our main goal is the [Portuguese] championship.

"We have to defend the history of a major club, the best club in Portugal. The biggest motivation to play on Tuesday is to represent Porto.

"At Porto there's always pressure. Pressure is synonymous with ambition and a will to win.

"Even though we lost the first match, I don't believe we're playing without pressure. We're looking to defend the history of the club.

"The five-goal margin is not a true reflection of the difference in quality between the two teams. We want to get a much better result."

  18. 'We respect Porto too much'published at 19:24 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March 2018

Liverpool v Porto (19:45 GMT, 5-0 first leg)

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp: "If I would be in the situation [as Porto] I would want to see a real reaction from my team.

"Their manager will be very lively and push his team. It'll be a tough job for us. We will have to play very, very well to win the game.

"We respect Porto too much and we respect the competition too much to think about real rotation.

"We don't rotate to avoid something, we just use the players who are in the best shape."

  19. 'Zidane to emulate Di Stefano?'published at 19:22 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March 2018

PSG v Real Madrid (19:45 GMT, 1-3 first leg)

    BBC World Service

BBC World Service Sport asked former Real Madrid keeper Bodo Illgner if Zinedine Zidane needs to win the Champions League this season to keep his job.

"In general yes, although he has a very good standing in the club especially with the president.

"I have the impression that the president wants to build him up like Alfredo di Stefano, who was the ambassador for the club. But remember Di Stefano was sacked as Real Madrid coach and that might happen to Zidane too.”

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is relieved to be coming into this game on the back of Saturday's 3-1 win over Getafe

Their previous game a week ago was a 1-0 defeat by Espanyol.

"Before a second-leg game like Tuesday it was very important to have three days in a good mood.

"When you lose it's tough. It was very important to win. We played a very serious game."
