The 'new Suarez' is coming on. The current one hasn't done much.

Cristhian Stuani has big boots to fill but he hasn't done enough. That was an opportunity to get the ball in the box, but that final pass just hasn't been good enough for Uruguay.

The chant of "Your-ug-why, Your-ug-why" is echoing around the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium but Oscar Tabarez's side have not been able to respond to their fans and lift the tempo of this game since the second half started, because France are still in complete control of it.

It is midfield where France's dominance is most evident. Paul Pogba is enjoying himself in there, not just winning the ball and spraying it around, but making runs forward off it too. His team-mates don't always find him, but the fact he is playing with a bit of freedom is an ominous sign.

Mind you, I think most midfielders would play with a bit of freedom if they had N'Golo Kante playing next to them.

When you're under the cosh you've got to do better. Uruguay have time and space out wide, but Nahitan Nandez's cross is really poor. Samuel Umtiti doesn't clear but Rodrigo Bentancur skies and slices wildy wide.

if Uruguay do win this, there’s just too much coincidence with ’66 and I think it’s time to put the mortgage on it finally coming home!

It's Kylian Mbappe who looks likely to add some bite at the moment, drifting in from the left and winning another corner. The corner is nodded out and Benjamin Pavard shoots from 30 yards, but lightning doesn't strike twice. Wide.

Uruguay need some bite up front. Edinson Cavani is not here so Luis Suarez owes it to his country.

Fernando Muslera is brave to come and punch away another free-kick, he clatters Paul Pogba in the process but after holding his wrist awkwardly the big man is OK.

Papi: N'golo Kante is a truly excellent footballer. One of the best.

Abihnav: Trying to maintain a one goal lead is the perfect recipe for disaster. France has to show some urgency to at least double the lead

Uruguay are game but famous last words they don't look like hurting France at the moment. Not from open play anyway.

I think Antoine Griezmann did what all forwards should do, in trying to shut the keeper down. But what was Fernando Muslera doing?

Ay ay ay! Fernando Muslera is a lucky man, closed down in nets by Antoine Griezmann, he tries a little drag back and Griezmann tackles him, the ball ricocheting just wide. Almost a comedy second goal.

A sign of what could happen, straight away. France turn the ball over, there's space in behind for the first real time and Antoine Griezmann is a half-second away from sending Kylian Mbappe clear. Hesitated, lost it.

I expect fireworks in this second half. This could be the last 45 minutes of Uruguay's World Cup, and we know by their nature, they will not just chuck it in. This will be a ferocious second half.

Imagine if keepers celebrated saves like strikers celebrate goals. I see Lloris doing the Sturridge dance.

I didn't really give that Diego Godin miss from the Hugo Lloris save enough chat - mainly because I didn't really see it. He BLAZED it over the bar from three yards out!

    Got to hit the target...
