That was absolutely a yellow card for Lucas Hernandez for a clear tug on Nahitan Nandez's shirt.

  2. YELLOW CARDpublished at 34 mins

    Uruguay 0-0 France

That's a booking - Lucas Hernandez has been whacked twice already but now is he sinner, not sinned against. He takes a bad touch, Nahitan Nandez toes it down the line and Hernandez goes for the cynical tug, ripping Nandez's shirt in the process.

    In the book.

If ever their was a moment for Paul Pogba to show that he's the real deal and mute this critics, then this is it.

    Uruguay 0-0 France

    Chris Sutton
Ex-Chelsea striker on BBC Radio 5 live

Olivier Giroud just got that half yard on Jose Gimenez but the defender used his body to ease the Frenchman out. It's a game of chess and France have to move the ball quicker.

And again - this time Ben Pavard puts in a fine cross and it almost falls for Coretin Tolisso at the back stick, but former Southampton full-back Martin Caceres does well to shield that out.

Great ball in! Paul Pogba drifts out to the right to find some space and he doesn't even look, just whips in a first-time cross which Olivier Giroud is very close to meeting at the near post.

Saidmadrid: Uruguay will do the minimum to snatch a goal and defend with their life if they are in front. Poor tactic but that's also football for you

Femi: Niggling fouls in full supply by both teams. The Argentine referee will have his work cut out in this grueling clash

Ishan: I had a dream yesterday that Uruguay scored four goals against France, although I consider them as a final contender

As a friend of mine said recently when reaching for the clippers, it's traumatic but 'you do all of your aging in one step.'

    Agreed.

France win a corner after good defending from Diego Laxalt.

  10. 'Uruguay frustrating France'published at 15:25 British Summer Time 6 July 2018

    Uruguay 0-0 France

Uruguay are doing what they do best and they are frustrating the opposition. France are looking for that quick switch from left to right to get the ball to Mbappe.

Can we talk about the elephant in the room, please? The referee needs to let it happen and accept baldness. He's not fooling anyone. Embrace your inner Sir Pat Stew, Ref.

Now I'm a balding man so somewhat pot calling the kettle black, but that ref has one hell of a combover going on!

    Uruguay 0-0 France

The Uruguay manager Oscar Tabarez - who believe it or not was in charge back at Italia '90 - looks content enough on the bench as Uruguay easily defend a France corner. Benjamin Pavard is then barged over by Luis Suarez. Uruguay's front two are not letting the France full-backs come out at all...

    Uruguay 0-0 France

France controlling all the ball in midfield, as you'd expect, but Uruguay never look troubled or bothered. They set up and ask you to break them down. Antoine Griezmann's touch on the edge of the area is a beauty and he almost finds Kylian Mbappe running into the area but he's closed down. Uruguay's deep defending paid off there.

Another crunching tackle from Cristhian Stuani into the back of Lucas Hernandez, they are targeting the France left-back. Again there's no punishment handed down from referee Nestor Pitana, who has been animated since kick-off.

Paul Pogba grows frustrated by the organised Uruguayans, lacing a 40-yarder miles over the bar.

    Uruguay 0-0 France

We have talked him up but that was a golden opportunity for Kylian Mbappe. He had all the time in the world but he jumps too early and loops his header.

  16. CLOSE!published at 15 mins

    Uruguay 0-0 France

Great chance! Got it all wrong!

Benjamin Pavard lifts in a lofted, early cross, Olivier Giroud shows his penalty box Sat-Nav remains attuned as he nods it back to find the unmarked Kylian Mbappe instead of going for goal.

Mbappe has all manner of time and space but he takes off way too early, he's ahead of the ball and in the end all he can do is put a placid header on to the roof of the net. He was early on it, rushed it. Had time to bring that down...

From a Boro fan: Stuani was no flop. He was top scorer the year we went up - despite being played on the wing and not up front - and then was played as virtually a second right back during our dire premier league campaign. Boro fans always yearned for him to play up front and wonder what could have been if he'd stuck around to play under Pulis, who undoubtedly would have recognised his natural talent - he's sorely missed.

Uruguay corner, threat. Ball in, nodded down by Jose Gimenez, into the goalmouth and brave, decisive keeping from Hugo Lloris to stoop and punch away from in front of Cristhian Stuani...

  19. Uruguay fans making themselves heardpublished at 15:12 British Summer Time 6 July 2018

    Chris Bevan
BBC Sport at Nizhny Novgorod Stadium

The Uruguay supporters are massed behind Fernando Muslera's goal and it does not take much to get them excited - whether we are talking about their side's dangerous-looking raids up the other end, or some of referee Nestor Pitana's decisions, they are making themselves heard... helped by a couple of drummers of course.

  20. French physicalitypublished at 15:12 British Summer Time 6 July 2018

    Uruguay 0-0 France

    Chris Sutton

France have that physicality with Olivier Giroud so they can throw the ball into the box, but the Uruguay back four are so compact and difficult to break down.

Kylian Mbappe looks unplayable in the first 15 minutes and his first thought in possession of the ball is to drive at the defence.
