Stuart: Top save from Lloris, but not as good as Pickford’s fingertip save the other night.

Sana: The unsung hero of this tournament - Laxalt. Never makes a mistake, and is keeping Mbappe in line.

Carl: Tottenham saved England in penalties. Did Tottenham with Lloris’s save just save France?

Are you a Spurs fan by any chance, Carl?

  2. 'Uruguay will be furious with the goal'published at 15:53 British Summer Time 6 July 2018

    Uruguay 0-1 France

    Tim Vickery
BBC Sport South American football expert

Uruguay will be furious with the goal. Not just the defending but the fact the set-piece happened. Bentancur dived in and it was an ill-disciplined challenge which is why he was booked.

No panic stations for Uruguay though and they have options to bring on in the second half.

  3. The omens aren't goodpublished at 15:50 British Summer Time 6 July 2018

    Uruguay 0-1 France

    • Before today France have never lost a World Cup game when winning at half-time (W20 D1)
    • Uruguay have failed to win any of their previous 16 World Cup games in which they’ve conceded the first goal (D3 L13), last coming back to beat today’s opponents France in 1966 (2-1).

    Uruguay 0-1 France

Uruguay are still in it and it has been a game of set pieces. The game needed a goal and it was a wonderful header by Raphael Varane, but that save from Hugo Lloris has kept France in it.

Uruguay are really missing Cavani but you've got to feel they'll get more chances as the game progresses.

That France goal has brought the game to life and it has has got the crowd going too.

There are not many Les Bleus fans easily apparent in the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium today, apart from a small pocket of them behind Hugo Lloris's goal, but look around the ground now and there are Tricolors being waved everywhere.

The Uruguay fans are still making the most noise, however. In fact they have upped the volume since going behind.

Femi: That’s got to be the save of this World Cup by Lloris. Breathtaking!

JP Fox: WHAT. A. SAVE. WOOOOW

Helles: Absolutely stunning and amazing save by Lloris, this has been the difference so far!

Fair play Uruguay - since going behind they have penned France in. A whirl of crosses into the middle.

That is save of the tournament. It is absolutely brilliant from Hugo Lloris and it is as good as a goal. It's a wonderful header from Martin Caceres and he has no right to save it.

  11. GREAT SAVE!published at 45 mins

Oh yes! C'est bien! What a save that is! Hugo Lloris takes off, full stretch to his right, and a one-handed save to tip away Martin Caceres' header from another set-piece.

Real quality form Antoine Griezmann. He has a little run up, and then checks his run, before whipping a tantalising cross into the box. Raphael Varane uses the pace of the ball and whips his header into the far corner. No chance for the keeper and now we've got a game on.

Can Uruguay change their approach then, without Edinson Cavani? They do have a shot on target as Nahitan Nandez hits one on the bounce which flies straight at Hugo Lloris.

GOAL - Uruguay 0-1 Francepublished at 40 mins

    Raphael Varane

Goalllll!!!! It's another from a set-piece. But when they are worked as well as that there is nothing you can do!

Antoine Griezmann approaches the ball, stutters, and then clips in a left-footed cross. The hesitation just puts the defence off their stride enough and Raphael Varane arrives at full pace to glide a header across and into the far corner.

    Choreographed to perfection.

  16. YELLOW CARD - BANNEDpublished at 40 mins

    Uruguay 0-0 France

The only Uruguayan to be booked in the World Cup has his second and it means that Rodrigo Bentancur will miss the semi-final if they get through.

It's a nasty one too, a proper dig in the shins of Corentin Tolisso. That smarts.

Antoine Griezmann and Olivier Giroud had time to get into the box for Mbappe's cross but there were no takers. It's just lazy which is unforgivable.

If France score first then it will be end-to-end action, but if Uruguay get the first goal then it will be a tight game.

At the other end Luis Suarez creates a half chance which Matias Vecino hits on the bounce, straight at Hugo Lloris. Tough one to hit.

Too fast for his own team-mates! Paul Pogba sends a ball down the right, Kylian Mbappe puts on the afterburners to streak past his man and then drive in a wicked low cross, it cuts out goalkeeper Fernando Muslera and would be a tap-in for someone in white - but the nearest player is Antoine Griezmann, still outside the area.

Nobody can keep up with Mbappe!

  20. The whistles tell you when France have the ballpublished at 15:34 British Summer Time 6 July 2018

    Uruguay 0-0 France

    Chris Bevan
BBC Sport at Nizhny Novgorod Stadium

You can tell when France have got possession without even looking - the longer they have the ball, the louder the whistling gets.

With chances thin on the ground, the neutrals inside the stadium are finding other ways to entertain themselves, and I have spotted at least three attempts at a Mexico Wave in the top tier of the Uruguay end.

The fans of La Celeste, who make up a blue mass below them, have no time for that kind of nonsense though.
