Tottenham maintained their 100% start to the Premier League season and increased the pressure on beleaguered Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho with an emphatic victory at Old Trafford.

Mourinho was hoping United would bounce back from an abysmal display in defeat at Brighton, but Spurs ran out easy winners once Harry Kane and Lucas Moura struck twice in the space of two minutes early in the second half.

United were left to rue Romelu Lukaku's missed chance when he rounded Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris from Danny Rose's backpass, but they ended well beaten to make this their worst start to a league season since 1992-93.

Spurs were simply too good for United after the break and the contest was effectively over once Kane directed in a superb header for his first goal at Old Trafford after 50 minutes and Moura swiftly swept home Christian Eriksen's perfect pass for the second.

The outstanding Moura raced clear to add the third six minutes from time to make it nine points from nine for Spurs.

Mourinho was a dejected figure amid a sea of empty red seats at the final whistle, having lost two of his opening three Premier League games for the first time in his career.

Counterpart Mauricio Pochettino, in contrast, was able celebrate his first victory as Spurs manager at Old Trafford after four straight losses without scoring a goal.

  9. 'I don't consider it a difficult time'published at 23:00 British Summer Time 27 August 2018

    Manchester United 0-3 Tottenham

    BBC Radio 5 live

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho on BBC Radio 5 live: "The best team, the offensive team, the team that pressed hard, that created chances and missed chances, but then from the first corner that Tottenham had they scored one goal and immediately that team was in the game. I'm frustrated but I'm happy with the players and the performance.

"I think we created more chances today than in the majority of our matches so of course I'm frustrated. "I think the feeling is what I was trying to do was to keep their motivation and that's not easy - normally when you play well you win it and I think that's what I try not to let go away with the score. One goal comes and everything can change."

On the defence, he adds: "We worked amazingly well this week but there are things that you can't resolve.

"I think the fans are the best judges in football and they were fantastic to the players and I wanted to make sure the fans had from us what they deserve and wanted to be fair to them because they were fantastic - I don't consider it a difficult time."

  10. 'Second half we dominated the game'published at 22:56 British Summer Time 27 August 2018

    Manchester United 0-3 Tottenham

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino to Sky Sports: "It is a massive, massive victory. It can provide us very good confidence and trust with how we are working. We know the end of the season is too far away, we need to keep pushing, trying to be consistent. Let's keep calm and working hard is the most important thing.

"They were better than us in the first half. Second half we had the possibility to score and we dominated the game. I am so happy because 3-0 in the second half it is like the coaching staff have an effect, but the credit goes to the players. We have our philosophy and we try to respect that, but the credit goes to the players because they believe.

"We'll see what happens with the title challenge. The most important thing is to keep calm. If at the end of the season with 10 games to go and we are in a good position then we have already shown we can fight.

"We have good players and good staff, unbelievable fans. We are going to have one of the better stadiums. The club is working so hard and trying to deliver that as soon ad possible."

  11. 'We're trying to create our own history'published at 22:51 British Summer Time 27 August 2018

    Manchester United 0-3 Tottenham

Tottenham goalscorer Harry Kane, talking to Sky Sports: "That's massive to come here and win the way we did - it's a big statement. We wanted to start the season well and got three wins out of three. It's been a fantastic start.

"We didn't play well in first half so we had to step up the tempo. The first goal is so important so we got it and then we punished them. We haven't started well in previous years and we've had to play catch up for the rest of the season and you have to stay up there all the way through, so this will give us huge belief. We're not getting too carried away of course.

From half time we said get more tempo, keep the ball in their half and when we got our chances we took them. Lucas (Moura) has been great. So fast, great at pressing and at winning balls back. He's a danger and that's what we need. We're a team that like to press hard with a lot of energy and he's done that fantastically this season.

"We're trying to create our own history. At Spurs, we've not been a club who have been at the top of the league year on year so we have to be up there and keep challenging for titles. For us as players we've got that drive and hunger to take the club to the next level

"People will be talking about Liverpool and those kind of teams and but they will have to put their money where their mouth is."

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham's double goalscorer Lucas Moura on Sky Sports: "I said before the game we are able to win. I did very well tonight, I am so proud of my team-mates. I cannot explain what I'm feeling in this minute.

"I came to Spurs to win because I believe in the project, the club and the players. If we play like this every game I know it's difficult but we are able to win the Premier League and that's why I am here.

"We are here - step by step to work hard. We will keep on working and let's see what happens."

Loser92: If we learned anything from this game it was that neither of these sides are capable of mounting a challenge to Liverpool and Manchester City this season. United were abysmal but Spurs were little better.

Angus Robb: Spurs buy to build players into the Poch system, fitness, and mental standards. Lucas is like a new player having had a full pre-season with the coaches, other players injured last term too. COYS

DSSBrooks: I actually thought United were unlucky tonight; created a number of decent chances and had they scored the first goal, could’ve been very different. I think Mourinho was out of luck today and I think he’s nearly out of time.

Jose Mourinho has gone on a bit of a rant in his post-match press conference.

He demanded respect for his achievements and raising three fingers to signify the goals Tottenham scored, he said it also stands for the number of Premier League titles he has won.

"More than the other 19 managers put together."

    Manchester United 0-3 Tottenham

Jose Mourinho has also just given a great answer in his news conference.

He says: "We lost against Sevilla (last season in the Champions League last 16) and we were booed because we deserved it. Today the players left the pitch after losing at home and they were applauded because they deserved it, so we keep trying, trying, trying.

"What was the score? This (holding three fingers up). What is this also? Three Premierships I have won, more Premierships than the other 19 managers put together. Me three, them two.

    "Respect, respect, respect."

  16. 'No unity without the manager'published at 22:38 British Summer Time 27 August 2018

Some more quotes from Jose Mourinho, speaking to Sky Sports: "The market is closed. There is no market until 1 January. What I had to say I told and I say not one more word about that. Anyone who watched this game, one thing they know for sure the team is united.

"A team that fights the way they did with the solidarity between the players it is clear the team is united.

"There is no unity without the manager."

    BBC Radio 5 live

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 live Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino said: "It is a massive victory for us and I am very proud of the performance. It is difficult to beat Manchester United at Old Trafford. They were better in the first half but we dominated from then on, and the clean sheet was a bonus.

"It is only the start of the season and we need to be consistent. We need to be realistic but want to keep pushing and building our fitness. A lot of our players have only had three weeks training but we want to build something special.

"This is my fifth year and I have good relationship with my players. We have shared a lot of things over that time and the appreciation is normal. We are in a very important period for our club with the new stadium and everyone is showing a big commitment."
