  1. 'He sounds like he has lost the plot'published at 22:29 British Summer Time 27 August 2018

    Manchester United 0-3 Tottenham

    Chris Sutton
Ex-Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 live

Jose Mourinho sounds like he has lost the plot with his post-match comments because we all watched this game, and they were outclassed.

I don't think Spurs applied themselves very well early on, but when they put their foot down, they exploited a team that has no leaders. There is a blame game going on here and the players do not look like they want to play for him.

  2. 'The team was playing to change the result'published at 22:28 British Summer Time 27 August 2018

    Manchester United 0-3 Tottenham

Here's some more from Jose Mourinho, talking to Sky Sports: "The team was playing to change the result, creating enough for that. I'm not saying with one goal at 2-0 down we would win but we were very much in the game and only 3-0 smashed the mentality of the team.

"Even at 3-0 I saw Luke Shaw with cramp and staying in the game to the last second with that pride the fans applaud.

Asked about Phil Jones' injury, Mourinho replies: "I don't know what Phil Jones has - maybe a hamstring? I didn't speak yet. We have Smalling. Lindelof and Bailly [remaining in central defence]."

  3. 'Biggest challenge in his career'published at 22:26 British Summer Time 27 August 2018

    Manchester United 0-3 Tottenham

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has just said on Sky Sports that "this is the biggest challenge Jose Mourinho has ever faced in his career".

Champions Manchester City only lost twice last season, United have now lost two of their opening three in 2018-19.

  4. 'Herrera was out of his depth'published at 22:22 British Summer Time 27 August 2018

    Manchester United 0-3 Tottenham

    Chris Sutton
Ex-Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 live

Spurs should have gone for it earlier. Ander Herrera was out of his depth in the back three and the visitors exploited that in ruthless fashion.

Jose Mourinho doesn't trust his back line and Spurs exploited that. Spurs are a team on and off the pitch, United aren't. Who is to blame? The manager.

  5. 'Our fans answered in an absolutely amazing way'published at 22:21 British Summer Time 27 August 2018

    Manchester United 0-3 Tottenham

More from Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho... "We worked all week and from the tactical point of view we didn't lose, but we lost the game.

"But all our fans don't read papers, all our fans don't watch television, all our fans are more intelligent than that - they answered in an absolutely amazing way.

"I don't think it's normal to lose a game at home and the supporters to react the way they did."

  6. 'We prepared very well'published at 22:19 British Summer Time 27 August 2018

    Manchester United 0-3 Tottenham

Jose Mourinho on Sky Sports: "We worked very well during the week. We prepared very well. We played very well (in training). The players had fantastic attitude.

"At half-time the result should be 2-0 or 2-1 or 3-0 and then something changed the game a little bit and then it was 2-0 (to Tottenham). Everyone could feel that one goal could change the direction of the game. But then the third goal killed the game."

Mourinho doesn't know the best formation to get the best out of his players and players are doing things that they are not used to, maybe the time has come to go?

    Manchester United 0-3 Tottenham

    Henry Winter
Chief Football Writer for the Times on BBC Radio 5 live

Paul Pogba and Serge Aurier were talking at the end of the game, and Jose Mourinho almost tried to interject in their conversation, but he was ignored.

He then walked away and almost looked like he was collecting souvenirs and had a scarf in his hand as he was applauding the fans.

  13. Daring to dream?published at 22:11 British Summer Time 27 August 2018

    Manchester United 0-3 Tottenham

The Spurs motto is "Audere est Facere", which means "To Dare is To Do" and Spurs fans will be daring to dream that this could just be their year.

Third in 2015-16, second in 2016-17, third in 2017-18. Can Tottenham be genuine title challengers this season? Optimism is rising among their supporters.

Will: People saying this isn’t Man United standard football, This has become United’s standard since SAF left, no manager in the world could fix the mess the club is in, not without a bit of time.

Trevor: They might be Man Utd but Spurs are men united.

Javel: I actually thought Man Utd played a lot better tonight than they did v. Brighton. But I don't think blaming one scapegoat will sort out the problem, which is one of attitude, from top to bottom, fans included.

  15. 'Who is he kidding?'published at 22:05 British Summer Time 27 August 2018

    Manchester United 0-3 Tottenham

    Chris Sutton
Ex-Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 live

Maybe that stance by Jose Mourinho at the end was trying to show unity, but who is he kidding? Has Mourinho just walked into this job? No.

He has had two years to build this team and he has to take responsibility. His managerial record is fantastic, but if United want to accept mediocrity, then that is what they have. Man City and Liverpool are in a different league.

  19. 'Man United are in regression'published at 21:57 British Summer Time 27 August 2018

    Manchester United 0-3 Tottenham

    Chris Sutton
Ex-Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 live

It is an embarrassment to lose in the manner which they did. 3-0 flattered United and I don't know where they, or their manager goes from here.

I don't know whether that was a signal at the end with the fans. United were in a position of strength at the end of last season but they are a club in regression on the pitch and it needs sorting out.
