  1. 'I'm not surprised'published at 21:40 British Summer Time 27 August 2018

    Manchester United 0-2 Tottenham

    Chris Sutton
Ex-Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 live

Are you surprised that United are behind to Tottenham, who have a terrible record here over the last few years? I'm not.

I think United's attitude was right in the first half but Spurs raised their level after the interval. Players have to take responsibilities but there aren't enough leaders I'm afraid. It comes from the top and Jose Mourinho has picked the team and recruited the players.

At the moment, Tottenham will be going fourth. Two more goals and they will go top.

  3. Where's Cantona?published at 82 mins

    Manchester United 0-2 Tottenham

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

The last time Manchester United lost two out of their first three league games was 1992-93.

If there is a crumb of comfort for Jose Mourinho about that statistic, it is that United went on to win the title for the first time in 26 years.

They did sign Eric Cantona in mid-season though.

  4. SUBSTITUTION - Rose off, Davies onpublished at 81 mins

    Manchester United 0-2 Tottenham

It looked like Harry Winks was coming on for Lucas Moura, but an injury to Danny Rose changes that plan and instead it is Ben Davies coming on for Tottenham.

  5. Postpublished at 80 mins

    Manchester United 0-2 Tottenham

Alexis Sanchez, with his first chance of the game, swings at it but can only steer it well over the top.

  6. Postpublished at 79 mins

    Manchester United 0-2 Tottenham

United piling on the pressure, Jesse Lingard with the shot, but Mousa Dembele's foot gets in the way for a corner, which comes to nothing.

  7. Postpublished at 78 mins

    Manchester United 0-0 Tottenham

Luke Shaw strikes on the double bounce, it flicks off the heel of a Spurs man with Romelu Lukaku inches away from getting his head on to it. United don't even get the corner.

  8. 'I feel sorry for Lindelof'published at 77 mins

    Manchester United 0-2 Tottenham

    Chris Sutton
Ex-Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 live

I feel for Victor Lindelof where the manager has brought him in, but he just doesn't seem to have the quality or the temperament for this level.

Things must be really bad at Utd if I'm starting to feel sorry for Jose. He clearly identified centre half as a problem, but got no backing from the board. Then again, he did spend £65 million on Bailly and Lindelof, so he only has himself to blame

  10. SUBSTITUTION - Trippier off, Aurier on (Tottenham)published at 76 mins

    Manchester United 0-2 Tottenham

And that is the end of the game for Kieran Trippier, who is replaced by Serge Aurier.

Seconds later another defender, Danny Rose, is booked.

  11. Penalty appeal for Man Utd turned downpublished at 75 mins

    Manchester United 0-2 Tottenham

Marouane Fellaini collapses to the ground and Kieran Trippier did have a hold of the Belgian's arm. Risky from the Spurs man, but no penalty.

  13. 'The problems start with the manager'published at 74 mins

    Manchester United 0-2 Tottenham

    Chris Sutton
Ex-Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 live

The problem is everywhere. It starts with the manager. He has picked a midfielder to play at centre half.

There are recognized defenders on the bench, who he has bought, that he doesn't have faith in. This isn't a pub team, this is Manchester United. They absolutely do not look like title contenders.

    Manchester United 0-2 Tottenham

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Old Trafford

Tottenham will hope they don't live to regret two big moments there when Dele Alli could not take advantage of Victor Lindelof's shocking back-pass before Harry Kane missed an easier header than the one he scored.

It means Manchester United are still alive in this game. Just.

Spurs should be over the hills and far away.

  17. Big win?published at 70 mins

    Manchester United 0-2 Tottenham

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

The last time Tottenham beat Manchester United by more than one goal in the league at Old Trafford was March 1963, when Bill Nicholson was the manager. Cliff Jones was amongst the scorers.

More recently - in October 1989 - they won 3-0 here in the League Cup. Gary Lineker was on target that night.

Worth mentioning as well, after that Lindelof backpass that let in Dele Alli, only for United to be rescued by David de Gea, United boss Jose Mourinho booted a water bottle in frustration.

He desperately wanted a centre-half in the summer and didn't get one. He will still be wanting a centre-half.

Horrific back pass by Victor Lindelof. This is a player whose confidence has been shot to bits as the manager has come out and said 'I have no faith in you'.

    What do you expect?
