    Chris Sutton
Ex-Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 live

I don't think PSG can win the Champions League because defensively every season they get found out. They are brilliant going forward but they don't have the defence to win the Champions League but I think Liverpool do.

  2. Tuchel plays down European expectationspublished at 17:18 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Liverpool v PSG (20:00 BST)

PSG have won five Ligue 1 titles in the past six seasons but have yet to progress beyond the quarter-finals in the Champions League.

Thomas Tuchel, who was appointed in May in place of Unai Emery, said he had not been told his job depends on him delivering Europe's most prestigious prize.

"No-one has told me this, in all the talks, that I have to win this otherwise I didn't do my job right," said the German.

"If anyone had told me that, I wouldn't have signed the contract."

  5. We need any help we can get - Klopppublished at 17:12 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Liverpool v PSG (20:00 BST)

Jurgen Klopp is rightly wary of the threat of PSG.

Like Liverpool the French champions are unbeaten in the league this season and have scored 17 goals in five games.

Klopp sent at a rallying cry to supporters in his press conference yesterday, saying his team need any help they can get.

"Paris are one of the favourites for the competition, for sure," Klopp said.

"This team is built for winning the Champions League. They have unbelievable quality.

"I have said it before, I like these challenges, but I only like it because I have a really good football team. If I was not a manager, I would watch this game.

"We play at Anfield and it can be an advantage. We hope we can use that. We need any help we can get."

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is hopeful striker Roberto Firmino will be fit for tonight's Champions League match with Paris St-Germain at Anfield.

The Brazilian suffered an eye injury in the win over Tottenham on Saturday but a hospital examination showed there was no lasting damage.

Fellow forwards Divock Origi and Dominic Solanke are also doubts so Daniel Sturridge could play if Firmino is ruled out.

  10. 'Barca have improved'published at 17:06 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

Barcelona v PSV Eindhoven (17:55 BST)

    Guillem Balague
    Spanish football journalist

Lionel Messi's speech to Barcelona fans at the Nou Camp in the team presentation this summer made it quite clear they were hurt by their quarter-final loss to Roma last season. There is no doubt he wants to make a major impact this time around.

If Barcelona do not progress beyond the quarter-finals - the stage at which they have been knocked out in the past three seasons - it will be considered a failure.

The squad certainly needed to be improved and they have done that with Arturo Vidal, the Xavi-like Arthur, Malcom and Clement Lenglet.

Messi is happy with the strength and depth of the side, and manager Ernesto Valverde feels he has a team ready to compete on all fronts.

That Barca first XI is mighty impressive isn't it? Some have Man City as favourites but how can you argue with that Barca team?

Barcelona v PSV Eindhoven (17:55 BST)

Philippe Coutinho makes his Champions League debut for Barcelona - having been ineligible last season when he joined them from Liverpool in January.

Three summer signings are on the bench, but nine of the XI started in last season's collapse to Roma.

PSV keep the same XI who thrashed Den Haag 7-0 on Saturday, with Mexico World Cup star Hirving Lozano likely to be the key man up front. Former Newcastle loanee Luuk de Jong captains the team.

Barcelona: Ter Stegen, Umtiti, Alba, Roberto, Pique, Coutinho, Busquets, Rakitic, Suarez, Messi, Dembele.

PSV: Zoet, Angelino, Schwaab, Dumfries, Viergever, Rosario, Hendrix, Pereiro, Lozano, De Jong, Bergwijn

Mauricio Pochettino: Spurs manager's surprising cow analogy

Mauricio Pochettino's team news wasn't even the most surprising thing at his pre-match presser.

He started talking about cows. Yes, cows.

Pochettino surprised journalists with an unusual analogy when asked whether he was feeling confident heading into the European campaign.

"Experience is experience but you need to apply it, plus the hunger, plus the motivation, plus being clever. If you are not clever it is not going to help you in the future," he said.

"It is like a cow that for every single day for 10 years sees the train cross at the same time and if you ask the cow what time the train is going to come, he is not going to have the right answer.

"Football is the same - motivation, circumstance, many things in football are so important. If you show the same hunger, same motivation, if you fight in the right way, there are many things that can keep you in the same way as the experience."

If we are going to be honest, Tottenham's first 11 can contend for the Champions League but it doesn't work like that. To be contenders you have to make those signings.

When you see the squad, Pochettino is right. They are a good team but they will not be able to contend at the level Manchester City and Liverpool are doing.

To leave Alderweireld and Trippier out of a game of this size, coming off the form they are on, when Hugo Lloris is not playing and Dele Alli not playing, it sounds really strange.

    Spurs seemed to be wavering.
