It's the last thing Raith Rovers would have wanted, thinking we're eight minutes away from half-time, see it through. One goal of a difference, anything can happen.

A second goal at this stage changes the dynamic of it and I find it very difficult to see how Raith will get back into it now.

How on earth is it not 2-0?

Peter Pawlett tries to round the goalkeeper, has a shot saved, gets to the rebound, puts it onto his right foot, and sees that effort blocked. But the ball rolls to his team-mate Ian Harkes who belts the ball at goal but finds Mateo Muzak in the way and St Mirren scramble it clear.

Then Callum Smith - up against his old club - drives through the middle with the home defence opening up for him, inviting him to shoot. He duly does, but doesn't get enough purchase behind it and goalkeeper Vaclav Hlady gets down low to save.

Former prime minister Gordon Brown, a Raith Rovers fan, and Brian Rice, head coach of Hibs' next opponents Hamilton, are two of the interested spectators at Easter Road this afternoon.

Rice was a classy midfielder, who broke through at Hibs back in the day.

It's a cracking cup tie now in Paisley, with an atmosphere to match.

Charlie Seaman - on loan at Dundee United from Bournemouth - tries a shot from range but it hits his own player Pavol Safranko.

Then Safranko is sent clear but he can't get enough on his shot and it goes for a corner, from which Calum Butcher heads wide.

But it's not all one-way traffic. Brad Lyons heads wide at a corner kick for the home side.

Sloppiness from Hibs allows Raith Rovers a chance just after the visitors had fallen behind, with Paul Hanlon knocking the ball off attacker Nathan Flanagan and the ball going just wide.

Moments later, Jamie Barjonas whips in a lovely cross and a stretching Tony Dingwall can only glance it wide from a central position.
