    Switzerland 0-0 England

This has been a better game than I was expecting so far. Needs a goal though, we don't want extra time and penalties for a third-placed play-off.

  2. 'Nothing wrong with Delph tackle'published at 14:19 British Summer Time 9 June 2019

    Switzerland 0-0 England

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

There was nothing wrong with that challenge from Fabian Delph. Fabian Schar was luck to get away with that because he overran the ball and England were in a dangerous position after that tackle.

  3. 'Performance more important than result for England'published at 14:18 British Summer Time 9 June 2019

    Switzerland 0-0 England

    Chris Sutton
Ex-Chelsea striker on BBC Radio 5 live

The performance is more important than the result today. I know it's a third-place play-off but we want to see this England team growing and evolving.

  4. England on the offensivepublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 9 June 2019

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer in Guimaraes

England looking more dangerous and Raheem Sterling should have given them the lead but it was a poor finish.

Gareth Southgate's side getting vociferous backing from their supporters but there is still very much an end of season feeling about this game.

A proper 50/50 - crunch! Fabian Schar's touch is poor and almost lets England in but Fabian Delph is whistled by the ref as the two slide in.

  6. 'Maguire and Gomez should deal with Seferovic'published at 14:17 British Summer Time 9 June 2019

    Switzerland 0-0 England

    Chris Sutton
Ex-Chelsea striker on BBC Radio 5 live

It will be a worry how easily Xherdan Shaqiri got on the ball in behind the England midfield there.

But it doesn't look like Haris Seferovic has the pace to get away from the England defenders - Harry Maguire and Joe Gomez should be able to deal with him.

  7. Postpublished at 17 mins

    Switzerland 0-0 England

England lose the ball again in that pivot area, Eric Dier's touch is not up to scratch and the Swiss almost get in but Joe Gomez powers in to clear up.

  8. CLOSE!published at 14 mins

    Switzerland 0-0 England

Should score! Dele Alli carries the ball authoritatively, his touch then gets away from him but it runs to Harry Kane, who finds Raheem Sterling to his left.

Sterling is beyond the defence, one-on-one, but can only shoot tamely at Yann Sommer.

    Chance.

  9. 'England give possession away too cheaply'published at 14:14 British Summer Time 9 June 2019

    Switzerland 0-0 England

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

England seem to get a lot of time on the ball but they give it away too cheaply.

If you look at the way Holland or even Switzerland are playing, they make use of the possession they have.

Those of you unhappy with England 'playing out' from the back, what's your alternative? Smashing it down the channels for Harry Kane to chase?

James: Playing out from the back... there is a fine balance between bravery and stupidity... feels like we are being stupid more than we are brave at the moment!

Amrul: Switzerland really need a new 'main man' their star player is a bench warmer at Liverpool

Josh: Not the game we'd have wanted to be playing in today but it would be nice to see a positive performance and result to end on a high

  13. 'Straight at Pickford'published at 14:13 British Summer Time 9 June 2019

    Switzerland 0-0 England

    Chris Sutton
Ex-Chelsea striker on BBC Radio 5 live

That seemed too easy for Switzerland. Remo Freuler peeled off the England backline and it only needed one ball to find him in space. He catches it nicely but it was straight at Jordan Pickford.

More problems in the England defence as one pass over the top frees Remo Freuler, Harry Maguire motors across to shut him down and the Atalanta player can only pump a shot right at Jordan Pickford.

I need to give keeper Yann Sommer credit for that early Harry Kane chance - the Monchengladbach man got a fingertip on it and pushed it on to the woodwork.

All gone a bit flat in the last few minutes.

Agreed - too much space for the Liverpool man there, he spread it out wide to Kevin Mbabu on that occasion but could have maybe had a dig.

  17. 'England giving Shaqiri space'published at 14:07 British Summer Time 9 June 2019

    Switzerland 0-0 England

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Xherdan Shaqiri looks to have so much time and space at the moment. And he's not the type of player England want to give space to.

  18. 'Big afternoon for Dier'published at 14:07 British Summer Time 9 June 2019

    Switzerland 0-0 England

    Chris Sutton
Ex-Chelsea striker on BBC Radio 5 live

It's a big afternoon and a big opportunity for the likes of Eric Dier to stake a claim for a place in this England team. Because he's had a dodgy season truth be told.

  19. Postpublished at 6 mins

    Switzerland 0-0 England

Eric Dier and Fabian Delph work the ball neatly from deep but this time they can't locate Raheem Sterling down the left.

  20. Postpublished at 5 mins

    Switzerland 0-0 England

Jordan Pickford makes a good low save to push out a drive - but the flag was already up anyway. A decent start to the game this!
