Their second goal was also their 100th Premier League goal against Newcastle.

Ultimately the pressure has paid off for Liverpool. Newcastle started really, really well but now they are looking a bit ragged. Sadio Mane has been incredible. When Newcastle scored it was not in some ways against the run off play. Liverpool had had all the possession but they had not had many shots and it was a wake up goal for them.

Newcastle made it difficult at the start but Liverpool are in control of this game at Anfield.

Miguel Almiron carries the ball as far as he can into the Liverpool half but Fabinho, Joel Matip and Andy Robertson are on him like a rash.

It's Liverpool's midfielder who comes out with the ball.

Hasan Anfield: The main Man! Sadio Mane is on fire.

Anthony Middleton: Sloppy by Atsu and goalkeeper should have done better. Awful goal to concede for Newcastle after such a solid start.

David Ljunggren: Imagine how effective Newcastle would be with 11 men. Jonjo Shelvey totally anonymous yet again.

Georginio Wijnaldum eyes up space on the edge of the box but he drags his shot and it's a comfortable save for the Newcastle keeper.

That's game over now. (Newcastle) had a good spell and scored a great goal. Liverpool have dominated. They have been in a 5-4-1 all afternoon Newcastle and you cannot win a game being negative all the time.

Miguel Almiron does well to take the ball off Andy Robertson on the edge of the Newcastle area then spins and silkily weaves his way past the Scotsman.

Fabinho is there to cover but that was really nice from Almiron, who has looked sharp.

Firmino in a nutshell. Arriving on the blind side to nick the ball from Christian Atsu and then play a perfectly-weighted through ball to Sadio Mane. So clinical.

Roberto Firmino, who was left on the bench, is going to replace Divock Origi, who seems to have picked up an injury.

He's hobbling a little uncomfortably on his right foot. Is that from the slip that happened earlier in the half? Origi whispers something to Klopp as he comes off and the German gives him a hug.

After that bright start, Newcastle are coming under a bit of pressure now. Here's the average positioning of both teams after 35 minutes.

But as long as it stays 1-1, Steve Bruce will be happy.

Joel Matip's ball comes all the way through to Sadio Mane in the box. Emil Krafth initially misses the ball but recovers just in time to poke it away before Mane can shoot.

Newcastle's have dropped very deep now. It's starting to play into Liverpool's hands.
