Liverpool need to shake that off quickly. What a start from Newcastle!

Former Liverpool left-back on BBC Radio Merseyside

Well I thought Christian Atsu was offside but the linesman didn't and they carried on. It was an unstoppable shot, the goalkeeper was bemused by it. We didn't see that coming, it was their first attack of real note. What a strike! Liverpool will be disappointed to let them in so early.

Wow! I was right behind that strike from Jetro Willems, an absolute stunner.

Could Trent Alexander-Arnold have done better? I don't think he, or anyone, was expecting that finish from the left back's wrong foot...

    Hang on!?

A long ball forward is brought down nicely by Christian Atsu. He slips it left to Jetro Willems who then cuts inside of Trent Alexander-Arnold and pulls off a sublime finish into the top right corner.

That's not part of the script!

Christian Atsu manages to bundle his way past Fabinho and plays a nice, threaded ball forward. Virgil van Dijk calls for Adrian to stay on his line - he's got it covered.

The keeper obliges and when Van Dijk pokes it back, he slips it right to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

    Coolly done.

Brian Sands: Shaqiri is very definitely a Klopp fall back. May see him second half as sub for Wijnaldum.

Early starts, less refreshment time - whatever it is, early kick-offs do nothing for an atmosphere do they? It takes the teams emerging for the pre-match handshakes for any real noise to be generated inside Anfield.

Anon: Football is back. Hate internationals. Come on you reds!! 4-3 anyone?

Kyle: I'm pleased with this Newcastle side with all the injuries we have this is as good a side as we can put out. Good to see it being a 3-4-3 as we played at Spurs with Atsu, Almiron and Joelinton playing as a front 3.

I am sure Magpies boss Steve Bruce is going to set up his side as they did in their win at Tottenham, camped in their own half to try to stifle Liverpool, but I don't see it working this time.

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp: "Steve Bruce, for sure, has a difficult job but he has done fantastic so far. They have kept the style of last season. They sold Salomon Rondon, got Joelinton and he is similar. They have speed for counters.

"It won't be easy. People expect it, probably, but I am really impressed by the solutions they have found so far."
