    Newcastle United

Newcastle United head coach Steve Bruce: "We are going to the European champions and they are as good a team as you will ever play against, so we'll have to defend well.

"It's always been a big fixture and you want to go there and take them on. It's what we're in it for. The core of the squad have been together a couple of years and they're a really honest and genuine group.

"When you've got that, you're capable of doing anything. They've gone to Spurs and won and they beat Man City last year, so they've got it in them."

A fixture that produced two of the Premier League's most memorable games in successive 1990s seasons is unlikely to give us quite the same thrill now.

As they did then, Liverpool ought to win, but if it takes a late goal 'a la' Collymore or Fowler to get it done, then something's gone a little wrong - and Newcastle will have (almost) done things just right.

They won at Spurs in their last away game thanks to a disciplined defensive display, and a similar but even better effort will be needed at a ground where Newcastle have won just twice in the league in 46 visits since 1950.

Maybe having a Brazilian striker is the key? Mirandinha 1988. , externalJoelinton 2019?

    Liverpool v Newcastle (12:30 BST)

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was named August's Premier League manager of the month yesterday.

It is the fourth time the award has gone to Klopp, who beat Pep Guardiola, Roy Hodgson and Brendan Rodgers.

The German led his side to wins over Norwich, Southampton, Arsenal and Burnley in their four games before the international break and were the only team to win every game.

Plenty of England fans wanted to see Joe Gomez in Gareth Southgate's side over the last week or so - but he'll have to get into this Liverpool team first. Joel Matip is currently Jurgen Klopp's established partner for Virgil van Dijk, meaning Gomez is once again warming up with the subs at Anfield. It is genuinely warm here - you fear some of the Newcastle lads could be in for a testing afternoon. Still, they won at Spurs...

Ryan Bertrand and Michael Obafemi are available again and Moussa Djenepo could be involved.

Paul Adam: Big call for Klopp to bench Bobby Firmino, he’s been arguably LFC's most important attacker since start of season. NUFC have form for being stubborn & hard to break down away from home.

Michael Smith: Jonjo to get 3, Almiron a couple and you will hear the roar on the Tyne! But back in reality we need to be very organised, go back to the Rafa playbook and hang in there.

Sheff Utd v Southampton (15:00 BST)

I think Sheffield United's good start will continue this weekend. Southampton are another of the teams who have had some very mixed performances and results this season, which is why I am backing the Blades to pick up another three points.

Paul Pogba has not recovered from an ankle problem and is one of several sidelined Manchester United players, with Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw also absent with injury.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a doubt with a back injury, while Jesse Lingard will be assessed after illness.

Leicester have no new injuries in the wake of the international break, with all players involved returning fit.

Matty James remains sidelined after having surgery on his Achilles.

  15. 'It's a bigger picture'published at 11:52 British Summer Time 14 September 2019

    Liverpool v Newcastle (12:30 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp speaking to BT Sport on his team selection: "Of course, we have to think about these things. Jordan Henderson is ready, Bobby [Roberto Firmino] is probably ready, but it’s not about being ready – it’s a bigger picture and we have to think about that.

“We could have made more changes but we need the rhythm as well and it makes not too much sense. A lot of games are coming up.

“We did it with all, we respect Newcastle too much for rotating. We really want to have the best starting line-up we can have for the specific opponent and that’s what we thought is the right one.

“We could train with that group since Wednesday or so and that helps; OK, Fabinho came in a bit late but with all the others we could train since Wednesday. So that’s good and that’s what we try to use.”

Scan the weekend's fixtures and this game immediately jumps out.

Unbeaten Leicester are top three. And deserve to be.

Manchester United are seeking a first win in four. If Leicester are to gatecrash the top six this season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team are in danger of being the side that make way.

On a positive note, Daniel James scored again this week for Wales - his fourth goal in six games for club and country.

But Leicester have an in-form scorer of their own. Since Brendan Rodgers' appointment six months ago, Jamie Vardy has scored more Premier League goals than any other player.

    Brighton v Burnley (15:00 BST)

Burnley's Ashley Barnes has shaken off a groin strain and Robbie Brady should be fit again after a rib problem.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson's calf injury will be assessed but Danny Drinkwater is out after hurting his ankle in a nightclub fight.

Brighton will be without winger Leandro Trossard, who faces a month on the sidelines after injuring his groin on international duty.

But defender Ezequiel Schelotto could make his comeback from a knee injury.

  20. 'Spurs not quite right'published at 11:42 British Summer Time 14 September 2019

Tottenham v Crystal Palace (15:00 BST)

    Mark Scott
    Match of the Day commentator

Spurs haven't looked quite right so far this season and Mauricio Pochettino held an hour-long meeting with his players this week to try and "refocus their minds", while he says he's sure Christian Eriksen's head is in the right place despite all the summer transfer talk.

Palace's recent league record against Tottenham doesn't make pleasant reading, but since the start of the 2016-17 season they've won away at five of the established top-six sides - which is more than any other club have managed in that time.

A victory at Spurs is the one scalp they're missing.
