Ilyas Najib: This Liverpool team would beat any Premier League team from any era. They made a very good Sheffield United team look very average.

Dan Bell: when we look back in 10 years time we’ll be saying this Liverpool side is the best ever Premier league team.

The owners of Liverpool have to take massive plaudits as well because the club were on the brink at one point, you just didn't know where they were going to end up. Then all of a sudden, the new owners come in and have spent wisely, built a brand new stand, the new training ground looks amazing and they have made the club the place to be at at the moment.

RE Gavin O'Brien 21:44: A key injury here or there like Alisson, Matip and Fabinho out for 2 months each and Salah playing through an ankle injury? And where would someone like Mané "possibly exit" to when he's already playing and thriving every week at the European, world and possibly English champions?

    Liverpool

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson speaking to BT Sport: "The performance level has been really high for a long period of time. We want to continue that, keep doing the things we are doing, keep improving and keep concentrating on the next challenge.

"I still think we can improve. The last 10 or 15 minutes they had a good chance. We can't afford to give teams those chances. Overall the intensity was really good. We have coped well and need to improve for the derby on Sunday."

Asked if the team will target Arsenal's record of 49-games unbeaten: "Not really. I am not really bothered about that. I am bothered about next game and next challenge and see where that takes us come May."

Marc Astick: Love it when people say everything has gone right for Liverpool. It's wilful ignorance. Injuries to Fabinho, Alisson, Matip, Lovren, Oxlade-Chamberlain. Now Keita (in the warm up!) Rammed fixture list. But yeah, it's all luck.

Seth: I'm not getting carried away with this Liverpool side. Just two seasons ago and last season all the pundits were raving about Man City and how Pep was going to dominate the league for the next decade! This is Liverpool's time and they better not bottle it again!

  7. 'We were calm and composed'published at 21:56 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2020

    Liverpool

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk speaking to BT Sport: "We just focus on the next game ahead of us. Sheffield United are a great side. We prepared very well. It showed on the pitch.

"It was good football at times. We were calm, composed and yeah, it was a good victory.

"It's very important [to keep clean sheets]. It's something good for us as defenders but also for the team. When we keep a clean sheet it gives us a big chance to win the game as we have so much quality up front. It gives us confidence."

I think the mistake from George Baldock early on was key. You get that opportunity and you get punished at this level. It's such a difficult place to come and try and get a result. 41 wins and 10 draws tells you everything about Anfield and how difficult it is to get something out of the game here.

I don't understand this notion that 'everything has gone right' for Liverpool this season. They're playing well and grinding out wins, which previous great teams have done. But have had a couple of horrendous VAR decisions go against us (although you could argue, who hasn't?). And we've had LOADS of injuries. Currently we have 5 first teamers out!!

Tough festive period with Sheffield United, who record back-to-back defeats against Manchester City and Liverpool.

Time to wipe away the cobwebs and move on to an FA Cup third-round tie with AFC Fylde.

Not much time for Harvey Elliott to do anything! That's the whistle and another very comfortable win for Liverpool.

They have gone unbeaten in the Premier League for a year. Incredible! They are also 13 points clear at the top again, with a game in hand.

Gavin O'Brien: Seen lots of talk about possible future domination of football from Liverpool but can't see it myself. Everything has gone right for them this season but a key injury here or there, combined with possible exits from Mane and others would quickly dispel that notion.

Supreme Meme: The PL has become far too predictable. No chance Sheffield United were ever getting back in this..
