More from Gareth Southgate to ITV about England v Scotland: "You can make the pressure as big as you want. We know the importance for our supporters, we know the desire we have as a team. But we have got to play well and everything else is a lot of noise.

"Of course we have got to be prepared for a physical challenge if that's the case and we have got to stand up to that. Scotland have got some excellent players and we know we have to be at our vert best."

England boss Gareth Southgate on whether Harry Maguire will play against Scotland: "He's had a few days training with the team and we are really pleased with the progress.

"We have got to make a decision in the next couple of days. He's certainly further ahead than we might have dared to hope when it got to the end of the season.

Southgate to ITV about naming his team against Scotland: "I don't like the idea of naming my side an hour and a half before kick-off. The players knew the team against Croatia the day before.

"We're preparing everybody for the Scotland game because with five substitutes, everybody has got to be very clear about their role.

"We have to pick what we think is right for the game."

Switzerland have not been brave enough and have a lot of work to do tactically to not just get back in the game but to take a part in the game.

Kevin Mbabu charges forward for Switzerland and tries to pick out a team-mate in the box. Giovanni Di Lorenzo is under pressure but steps over the ball before retreating to gather possession unchallenged.

It is not all flair. The Italians still know how to mix it. Breel Embolo looks to turn to get into the box but he is muscled out of it. Goal-kick.

Akinpelu: The fact that teams can qualify as best losers makes the group stage have such a competitive feel about it. Loving that Germany v France felt like a QF, Italy v Switzerland feeling like a last 16 tie.

Having won each of their last nine games in a row without conceding before tonight, Manuel Locatelli's opener is the 29th goal in a row Italy have scored without reply.
