    Spurs 1-0 Southampton

Lucas Moura nicks the ball off Oriel Romeu in his own half. He runs about 50 yards but then ends up overplaying it - although he does get a corner out of it.

JWP's corner is headed by a Southampton player - but ends up going back towards the corner flag. JWP has another chance to cross but this one is held by Hugo Lloris.

    Spurs 1-0 Southampton

Southampton work the ball from left to right but James Ward-Prowse's cross is put behind by Jan Vertonghen. I think I like JWP at right-back.

Tottenham need Ryan Sessegnon on the front foot and going forward. Too often in this game he's making poor decisions defensively for the team and I think until he settles down in the game, this is going to be very transitional.

If you don't get that press right out in the wide spaces then it's easy for Southampton to thread the ball in behind - especially behind Vertonghen. He doesn't seem to want to run into the deep, I thought Lloris was hesitant and Ings hits the underside of the bar, fortunately for Tottenham, it's still 1-0.

    Spurs 1-0 Southampton

That was Southampton's first own goal since James Ward-Prowse against Manchester City in December 2018.

    Spurs 1-0 Southampton

The Saints have found their stride again. Nathan Redmond has a crack from distance. It should be a simple save for Hugo Lloris but he spills it - luckily for Spurs not into the path of Shane Long.

  9. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 19 mins

    Spurs 1-0 Southampton

Southampton should be level. James Ward-Prowse, playing at right-back, plays a wonderful long pass down the wing - straight into the path of Danny Ings.

You'd expect Hugo Lloris to come off his line to deal with it, but he's stayed at home, and Ings smashes the bouncing ball off the crossbar from close range. You'd expect an in-form striker to score from there.

Yes Tottenham miss Kane but by playing Son and Moura, at least they have two players who can play together. Neither one of them is a number nine, so at least having them in and around the same areas, you can see a little bit of combination play. They are two players who will press really well.

    Spurs 1-0 Southampton

Tanguy Ndombele turns a couple of Southampton midfielders and gets fouled by Oriol Romeu. He takes a while to get to his feet, holding his back, but he doesn't need treatment.

No response yet from Southampton, who had been playing so well until that goal.

What a pace this game is being played at, end to end stuff. Not a surprise for Southampton fans and I suspect Tottenham fans are hoping for more of this football under Jose Mourinho. Great break from Ryan Sessegnon in particular and once it drops to Tanguy Ndombele, it takes a deflection into the bottom corner. Great break from Spurs.

GOAL - Spurs 1-0 Southamptonpublished at 12 mins

    Jack Stephens own goal

Spurs lead and Jack Stephens is a very unlucky man.

Harry Winks plays an excellent ball over the top towards Ryan Sessegnon. It's a great goalscoring chance, but Stephens makes an excellent tackle to deny him.

The loose ball breaks to Tanguy Ndombele outside the box and he hits a powerful effort. I'm not sure it's on target but it hits Stephens, who is still getting to his feet and flies into the back of the net.

Really easy for Southampton to slice Tottenham open. The problem for Spurs is how to get the press on the left and the right back. You can see the wing-backs for Tottenham are in two minds, do they go and press the full-back or do they stay a little bit lower and because of that, the midfielders are getting dragged out into those areas.

    Spurs 0-0 Southampton

Southampton are playing some good football at the moment. Shane Long backheels the ball into the path of Nathan Redmond, who cuts in. His shot goes through the legs of Toby Alderweireld, which almost catches out Hugo Lloris and the Spurs captain has to adjust his legs to save the ball with his feet.

It's important for Ryan Sessegnon to perform for Tottenham tonight, especially in his attacking play as he's struggled so far and this is a chance to impress in a position he's dominate.

Shane Long is inches away from meeting this at the back post. Sofiane Boufal speeds down the left and whips in a near-perfect cross which Hugo Lloris just tips beyond Long, who would have had an empty net otherwise.

End to end. Danny Ings has a chance to put Southampton in front. He controls a long ball first time with his right foot to cut inside a defender but then his bouncing left-footed shot is held by Hugo Lloris.
