  1. Top-two hopes fading for Forest and Fulhampublished at 16:53 British Summer Time 7 July 2020

Nottm Forest v Fulham (17:00 BST)

Focusing on the early kick-off now, and Nottingham Forest have only lost one of their past nine games - but their bid for automatic promotion is faltering.

The Reds had to settle for a draw against Derby at the weekend, leaving them nine points off the top two and with an inferior goal difference to the top three.

With Fulham slipping to seven points behind second-placed West Brom since the restart, defeat for either side will likely consign the beaten party at the City Ground to a place in the play-offs.

Fulham remain without influential top scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic, while Forest striker Lewis Grabban is one goal away from making it 20 league goals for the season for the third time in his career at this level.

The Whites made hard work of beating mid-table QPR last week and had to wait until the 95th minute to beat Birmingham at the weekend.

    How it stands

Brentford and Fulham will not have given up hopes of automatic promotion, but Nottingham Forest have little chance of a top-two finish after their draw at Derby County on Saturday.

The pressing need for points makes the early kick-off between Forest and Fulham all the spicier.

West Brom, who host the seventh-placed Rams tomorrow, still have to play the Whites in their final five fixtures.

Championship leaders Leeds are not in action until Thursday, when Marcelo Bielsa's men welcome lowly Stoke City.

Neither of the top two are in action this evening, but there is plenty at stake elsewhere.

These matches could have implications for the automatic promotion race, the final play-off place and the relegation fight.

Here is what is coming up:

    • Nottingham Forest v Fulham (17:00 BST)
    • Brentford v Charlton Athletic (18:00 BST)
    • Luton Town v Barnsley (18:00 BST)
    • Reading v Huddersfield Town (18:00 BST)
    • Cardiff City v Blackburn Rovers (19:45 BST)

With five games of the regular campaign left, the major issues in the Championship are still to be decided.

Yet we could be a step closer to finding out who's going up and who is going down after the midweek round of fixtures.

There's a massive fixture at the bottom this evening, while three other clubs are looking to close the gap to the top two.

We have updates on five matches to bring you, with the first of those kicking off in a quarter of an hour at a rather soggy City Ground.
