    Iceland 0-1 England

A bizarre game on nearly every level! Raheem Sterling's goal wins it for England but it was not a great display.

England really struggled to create anything at all and Iceland should have levelled with that last-gasp penalty of their own.

  2. FULL-TIMEpublished at 18:50 British Summer Time 5 September 2020

    Iceland 0-1 England

    A remarkable last few minutes!

England have won their first game of the year.

  3. MISSED PENALTY!published at 18:48 British Summer Time 5 September 2020
    Breaking

    Iceland 0-1 England

Shocker! Former Aston Villa man Birkir Bjarnason leans back and puts his penalty into the stands...

  4. PENALTY TO ICELAND!published at 18:47 British Summer Time 5 September 2020

    Iceland 0-1 England

Straight from the restart! Joe Gomez tangles with a blue shirt and the referee points to the spot!

Two red cards and two pens!

  5. goal

GOAL - Iceland 0-1 Englandpublished at 18:45 British Summer Time 5 September 2020

    Raheem Sterling (Pen)

Raheem Sterling does it again for England! He gets a bit lucky as he just passes it down the middle and the keeper nearly saves it with his feet but it goes in and England will probably win this.

    Unless...

  6. RED CARD - Sverrir Ingasonpublished at 18:44 British Summer Time 5 September 2020

    Iceland 0-0 England

It's a second yellow for Sverrir Ingason as well. Off he goes. Harsh.

  7. PENALTY TO ENGLANDpublished at 89 mins

    Iceland 0-0 England

    Now then!

The corner comes through to Raheem Sterling at the far post, he chests down and shoots and a penalty is given for handball as the defender makes the block!

  8. Postpublished at 88 mins

    Iceland 0-0 England

Shhhhoooootttt!!! Mason Greenwood finds Raheem Sterling inside the area, can he get one away? No he turns the wrong way and runs into trouble.

    Corner.

  9. Postpublished at 86 mins

    Iceland 0-0 England

'Work in progress'. 'glorified friendly', 'match-fitness', etc.

  10. Postpublished at 84 mins

    Iceland 0-0 England

Mason Greenwood gets it out of his feet and looks for a cross/shot - charged down and it brings on cramp.

  11. Postpublished at 83 mins

    Iceland 0-0 England

It's not been good. I've been on Nations League duty for the last three days and every game has been pretty rank to be honest.

Forgettable performance and occasion thus far. Ending 0-0?

  12. Postpublished at 82 mins

    Iceland 0-0 England

Contractually-obliged bihourly reminder that the population of Iceland is about the same as that of Coventry.

England should be ashamed of themselves. Toothless. I've watched Huddersfield enough times to know a set of chancers when I see them.

Stuart & Ted (the dog) West Yorkshire

I've never understood how Walker gets in the team anyway. At least he can't feature for a while now. He is slow and clumsy. Trent any day.

    Malc Manchester

England players seem to be playing it safe. Who can blame them with the season starting soon? Pointless game

    Iceland 0-0 England

This is the first time a Man City and a Man Utd player have made their England debut in the same game since September 1992, when Paul Ince (United) and David White (City) earned their first caps.

I think I remember that game - in Spain I think. David White could do a job out there at the moment.

  15. Postpublished at 78 mins

    Iceland 0-0 England

It won't be long before Mason Greenwood has a shot, that's for sure. Harry Kane wasn't at his sharpest but I feel like I've been saying that for about three years and he still scores nearly every game.

  16. SUBSTITUTION - Kane OFFpublished at 78 mins

    Iceland 0-0 England

Harry Kane off, Mason Greenwood on.

  17. Postpublished at 75 mins

    Iceland 0-0 England

Kieran Trippier's corner is a good one, TAA helps it on and it's cleared away nicely from inside the six-yard box. Still nothing for Hannes Halldorsson to do in the Icelandic net.

  18. Postpublished at 75 mins

    Iceland 0-0 England

I think Trent Alexander-Arnold is actually playing on the left...

England counter from a rare Iceland attack, Raheem Sterling burns away down the right but his deep cross is well defended.

  19. Postpublished at 74 mins

    Iceland 0-0 England

Will Iceland have a change of gear now and go for the win? They've got a man advantage. They haven't had a shot on target yet...

  20. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 73 mins

    Iceland 0-0 England

Trent Alexander-Arnold is belatedly on - Jadon Sancho is the man who comes off as England reorganise.
