GG in DC: England taking too many touches & not using the width. Get the first touch passing going & chalk on the full backs boots & this will be a 3 or 4 goal stroll

'The Nations League is better than friendlies' Thumbs up or down to that statement? Both a pointless waste of time, whose only purpose are to further congest already packed fixture schedules and create unnecessary injuries... Bin them both.

There's a couple of England fans watching on from alongside a fence at the ground. Some trip that.

Maybe they live on the island.

Chris King: Southgate two years preparing for Euro20 that's been postponed. Plans have been thrown out the window. He's now looking at squad options. We have loads of right backs but not a lot on the left so he's got a chance to experiment with Trippier. Give him a break.

Paul: The nations league isn't better than friendlies. The only ones it suits are the minnows to give them an extra route to the tournaments. All the big nations would qualify for tournaments via regular qualifying anyway.

  8. Playing outpublished at 17:52 British Summer Time 5 September 2020

Both Joe Gomez (57) and Eric Dier (53) completed more passes than Iceland (52) in the first-half, with no Iceland player having more than nine successful passes.

I agree with Fergus 17:39, Charlie Taylor would be a better choice than Trippier. I know Chilwell is injured but what about Shaw, Bertrand, Saka....are they all unavailable!?

    Butch, East Dulwich

This match is crying out for some creativity, get Grealish on for the 2nd half. His ball carrying and propensity to generate free kicks on the edge of the area will create the opportunities England need.

    Kevin, Leicestershire.

Of the many subs at his disposal Gareth Southgate may be considering Jack Grealish, Mason Greenwood and Danny Ings if it stays at 0-0...

  11. 'England should do a lot better'published at 17:50 British Summer Time 5 September 2020

    Iceland 0-0 England

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

That goal [that was disallowed] was a goal as far as I'm concerned, but then they didn't react.

England should be doing a lot better.

Iceland started very brightly and let England know they were here but then England dominated. Declan Rice had the golden opportunity. Jadon Sancho didn't get at his man enough, he can do a lot more and I'm sure Gareth Southgate will be saying that.

Iceland will be delighted and at the minute England are going to get frustrated.

  13. HALF-TIMEpublished at 17:46 British Summer Time 5 September 2020

    Iceland 0-0 England

A bit of a trudge in Gareth Southgate's gait as the half-time whistle goes. As predictably difficult a half as we expected.

Harry Kane had the ball in the net, England looked sharp enough in patches but they haven't got the breakthrough yet.

  14. Postpublished at 44 mins

    Iceland 0-0 England

Peaks and troughs, England looking slick again now - Raheem Sterling almost finds Phil Foden who keeps making those runs from deep. Well defended.

  16. Postpublished at 40 mins

    Iceland 0-0 England

Ahhh that was a chance! Kieran Trippier cuts on to his right foot from out on the left and bends in a ball that James Ward-Prowse is motoring on to. It's a great run, it looks perfect but the ball either dies on him or he misreads the flight as right at the end he can't gather it in.

If he can take a touch there he scores.

  17. Postpublished at 40 mins

Raheem Sterling does well on the right this time but Harry Kane gives it away under heavy pressure. England have gone a bit flat.

Burnley, second most clean sheets in the PL, have a perfectly competent English left-back in Charlie Taylor. With the injury crisis I cannot understand why he hasn't been given a chance.

    Fergus, London

Why isn't VAR in a tournament like this ! Crazy

    Daniel Buttery

    Iceland 0-0 England

Eric Dier concedes a free-kick and Declan Rice has to defend it really well at the far post. Kieran Trippier then plays a wastefull pass forwards under pressure. The hosts ending the half well.

  20. 'England need that opener'published at 17:35 British Summer Time 5 September 2020

    Iceland 0-0 England

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

England are dominant without creating the chances they should have. Iceland, to give them credit, they are very hard working and honest.

England need to get that first goal, if they do I think they'll get a few more.

As long as it's 0-0 Iceland will believe one set-piece could give them the advantage. In football terms, England are far superior.
