  1. CLOSE!published at 34 mins

    Iceland 0-0 England

The free-kick is a decent one - over the wall from Arnor Traustason but it was always well wide. Nothing to concern Jordan Pickford there, but it has got Gareth Southgate fairly animated on the sideline.

England started well and have looked lively but they need a goal.

  2. YELLOW CARDpublished at 33 mins

    Iceland 0-0 England

    Steady on Callum!

Here's another Iceland attack, Albert Gudmundsson runs at the defence and Kyle Walker brings him down at full speed. Just outside the area, and Walker is booked.

Possession for possession's sake. Another toothless display from England so far. How long can Southgate go on wasting the talent at his disposal?

Josh Earl: still a little bit miffed as to why Bukayo Saka wasn't called up at left-back as a replacement, especially when you consider the season he had

Aleks Yakubssohn: I get feeling from all this swagger i read about England's superior start, that Iceland are gonna score and maybe even win this game

    Iceland 0-0 England

Iceland terrorised England with a long throw four years ago and here's their first chance to launch one in. Joe Gomez heads it away, and Eric Dier does likewise with the follow-up. Well defended.

  7. Postpublished at 28 mins

    Iceland 0-0 England

Raheem Sterling cuts in from the left, he has four men in blue in front of him, buys a bit of space to get a shot in but doesn't catch it properly. Instead of that curler into the corner we've seen so often it's a bobbler into the arms of Hannes Halldórsson.

    Iceland 0-0 England

Raheem Sterling floats a nice ball over the top for Phil Foden breaking in like a young David Platt, it's just too strong for his City team-mate though. There's space in behind if England get those runs right.

  9. 'Technically proficient England'published at 17:25 British Summer Time 5 September 2020

    Iceland 0-0 England

    Iceland 0-0 England

Most of us probably think Trent Alexander-Arnold should be playing at right-back so it's only right to say that Kyle Walker has been excellent so far, as he lazers a 65-yard crossfield ball out to the left wing. He's been heavily involved.

Mickey Bricks: Like the look of this young England team. They look very energetic and dynamic

Arron Richmond: I despise VAR and have no issue with a tight offside call going against us.

  12. Postpublished at 22 mins

    Iceland 0-0 England

Halfway through the first half and England are utterly dominant - with 79% of the ball - but they've had just two efforts on target so far.

They should, of course, have the lead but Harry Kane was flagged offside in error.

  13. 'Rice won't see a better chance'published at 17:20 British Summer Time 5 September 2020

    Iceland 0-0 England

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

What a brilliant chance that was for Declan Rice. He won't get a better chance in his international career.

England are dominating and Iceland are just hanging in there. With the tempo they're playing at, Iceland are finding it very difficult.

    Iceland 0-0 England

England are caught out by an early ball forwards but Joe Gomez just effortlessly eats up the grass and makes a tackle. Superb cover.

  15. Postpublished at 19 mins

    Iceland 0-0 England

Declan Rice actually kicked his standing leg. A sitter that, he was only about five yards out.

  16. Postpublished at 17 mins

    Iceland 0-0 England

File Jadon Sancho's first touch under 'B for Berbatov.' Just superb every time. For all their dominance England haven't tested the keeper enough yet - although Declan Rice misses the ball altogether when well placed at the near post.

  17. Postpublished at 17:16 British Summer Time 5 September 2020

Kieran Trippier has made more passes than Iceland so far.

  18. Postpublished at 14 mins

    Iceland 0-0 England

We get a fake 'Viking thunder clap' from the Iceland fans - who aren't here of course. It's not the same is it.

Joe Gomez then has to defend well as Iceland come forwards on a rare attack.

  19. 'England far superior'published at 17:13 British Summer Time 5 September 2020

    Iceland 0-0 England

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Some nice football but just no end product so far.

England are far superior. They are so dominant and I just cannot see them not winning this game.

Paul: Absolutely nothing wrong with that kane goal. He wasn't offside at all. And there was no other touch after sterling crossed it in that would have made him offside either. Shouldnt have been disallowed

Kris Jefferson: Where are all the opponents of VAR on that completely legitimate goal being ruled out for England?
