    Iceland 0-0 England

All of Phil Foden's early touches have been spot on. England look really good out there to be honest. Jadon Sancho is floating around all over the place, he's on the left now and finds James Ward-Prowse but his shot is charged down.

  2. 'England finding space'published at 17:11 British Summer Time 5 September 2020

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Iceland had a very good opening five minutes but England now are finding space and time on the ball.

From the angles we saw, Harry Kane looked to be onside.

  3. CLOSE!published at 10 mins

    Iceland 0-0 England

England have started well here. Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling link up on the left, it's popped out wide and Jadon Sancho turns it inside to Kyle Walker.

He shoots, it takes a deflection and flies into the side-netting. From the Kieran Trippier corner Sterling could do better but can't control at the back post.

  4. Postpublished at 8 mins

    Iceland 0-0 England

England should be ahead then. The cross in from the left by Raheem Sterling was superb.

  5. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 6 mins

    Iceland 0-0 England

Harry Kane! England have the ball in the net but Kane's effort is ruled out for offside.

He stretched in to touch home at the far post from Raheem Sterling's cross and to be honest, he was clearly onside.

Iceland get away with one there. No VAR - be careful what you wish for eh?

  6. Postpublished at 5 mins

    Iceland 0-0 England

Iceland are bravely/naively playing quite a high line which means the ball over the top is on. Raheem Sterling is just offside down the left but then Joe Gomez fizzes a peach of a ball over the top down the right and Jadon Sancho's touch is a dream. Can he get the cross in?

    Not quite.

  7. 'Surprised by Iceland start'published at 17:04 British Summer Time 5 September 2020

    Iceland 0-0 England

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

I'm surprised with how Iceland have started already.

They've really started pressing England and they're getting in their faces.

  8. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Iceland 0-0 England

You'd have to think that Dean Henderson will have to get a move sorted in the next few weeks. Harry Kane has England's first shot on target and it's a whistling strike from 25-ish yards. Straight at the keeper though.

Mark in Syston: How good does Dean Henderson have to be before he's allowed to start for England? How is Pickford still First choice?!

  10. Postpublished at 2 mins

    Iceland 0-0 England

Declan Rice is caught out of position in midfield and Iceland threaten to break but James Ward-Prowse does well to get back and cover. Phil Foden is then tripped and the pressure is over.

  11. Postpublished at 1 min

    Iceland 0-0 England

England are playing a back four. Kieran Trippier is at left-back.

Has anyone ever told you Iceland is the same size as Coventry? Population wise?

Just squeeze that in one more time.

  15. 'Kane must explode this season'published at 16:56 British Summer Time 5 September 2020

    Iceland v England (17:00 BST)

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

To go to the next level Harry Kane obviously has to keep scoring lots of goals. I think for Kane it's about getting supply to him, he scores all type of goals but he relies on supply.

He's in an England team now that teams don't like playing against and it must be a good side to play in. If you give him service he will score goals and I will be surprised if he doesn't get three or four good chances today.

This is the season where it has to explode. It will eventually come to the point where he thinks it will be time to go [from Tottenham]. A player of that ability needs to have honours.

Good effort on the anthem singalong, lads. No waistcoat for Gareth today just a smart jumper over a shirt and tie. Classic.

Jimbo: Very stange starting line up for England tonight. Looks a lot like an experiment. Lets see how it goes.

Christophe Talbotski: Wanted to go & see England in tournament for 30 yrs. Picked the Iceland game. Walked in to 3 Lions playing & Rooney scoring early, it was going to be amazing. Then, it wasn't. Rashford warming up 55 mins in, said to my mate 'hope he doesn't leave it too late'. He did.

I wasn't keen on the new England shirt until I saw the U21s play last night - the red names and numbers really make a difference. Decent.
