Nicholas Gray: Good to see Bale back. Never really got the credit he deserved in Spain. Just hope Jose knows how to utilise him best.

    Lewis Keeffe: Bale wont fail.

Bale is massive for Spurs. He is the difference between scrapping for 4th with Arsenal and Man Utd over fighting for 6th with Wolves and Leicester

Mason Greenwood is coming out for the second half. Didn't Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have a pop at England saying he needed a rest?

Chemist Paul: Well that was pretty awful. Pogba has been incapable of completing a pass today, and James looks utterly out of his depth. Would love to see Van de Beek and Greenwood replace them both at halftime.

Anthony Marshall: Different summer transfer window, same old problems and excuses from Manchester United. Being left behind by rivals who are strengthening very well. Without any more additions United will not finish in top four. Fans getting tired of a reoccurring story each year.

  9. How was Bale's last season in England?published at 18:27 British Summer Time 19 September 2020

In his final season at Spurs (2012-13), Gareth Bale was involved in 37 goals in all competitions (26 goals, 11 assists). Only Robin van Persie (39) and Juan Mata (49) were involved in more for a Premier League club.

Only Harry Kane has ever scored more Premier League goals in a season for Spurs than the 21 Bale managed that campaign.

Those 21 goals were worth 24 points to Tottenham. Only three other players in Premier League history have seen goals worth more (Alan Shearer x3, James Beattie and Robin van Persie).

Sorata: Spurs will be hoping Bale will have the same effect on them that Rodriguez has had at Everton, it will all come down to whether Mourinho can play him in a way that brings out his best like Ancelotti does for James.

Kev Mcveigh: Bale will certainly be a challenge for many PL defenders, but he may also be too good for some of his new teammates to keep up with.

  11. 'I would rather save my nerves'published at 18:25 British Summer Time 19 September 2020

    FT: Leeds 4-3 Fulham

    Leeds United

Leeds' Mateusz Klich speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "It was very entertaining game for the supporters watching on the TV. Unfortunately we let them back into the game and it was our mistake. We didn't need that.

"We should have just finished the game at 4-1. At the end we won and that's what matters. It was a very important three points. I hope we can build on that.

"It's dangerous. Obviously fans want to see attractive, offensive football on the TV but I would rather save my nerves and win the game more comfortably. But football is a game for the supporters, a game for the fans and I hope they like it.

"I just can't wait for them to come back to the stadium. I am sure there is a lot of people watching on TV. I can imagine 0-0 is boring for the fans. I would rather win!"

  12. Bale’s Champions League final recordpublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 19 September 2020

Only three players have ever scored more European Cup final goals than Bale's three - Real legends Alfredo di Stefano and Ferenc Puskas (seven each) and Cristiano Ronaldo (five).

He scored against Atletico Madrid at the end of his first season and a double, including that bicycle kick, against Liverpool in 2018. He also netted in the 2016 shootout against Atletico.

He is one of seven players to score at least twice in a single Champions League final, the only British player to do it and the first substitute to manage it.

Even a bad bale is a useful signing. Short term but could be enough to get spurs back in the champs league.

Altaf Shaikh: Same Old Utd. So so stale, no flair, am bored.

All summer United fans have been saying we need a left back, center back and right winger. The goal came through the lack of pace from lindelof and lack of concentration from Shaw. And we lack any quality down the right side. But of course we are just transfer hungry social media fans so what do we know?

Once he gets back to full fitness I think Bale is a great re-sign, still got it I think hes only 31 cannot understand the doubts.

    Chris in Blackburn

Bale is a massive (& expensive) PR stunt by Spurs to appease desperate fans. Well past his peak and will struggle back in the Prem.

    Rowly

Bale will provide silverware and the squad a masterclass in creativity, and how the beautiful game should be played.
