I’ve watched Gareth Bale go through periods at Real Madrid when he’s not been playing a lot and then he turns up for Wales and he’s an animal for them and he wins games single-handedly for them. That tells me when he finds that fire and love he has for his country, they find a way to get the best out of him.
He had the best part of two years left on his deal on about £500,000 a week. If he wasn’t motivated he could have said ‘I’m not going anywhere, I don’t want to play football anymore’. We’re hearing he wants a challenge.
Sometimes as a player you need something to light you back up again. Whether it’s going back to a club you love or just getting him and his family back to England to give him a lift, we don’t know his motivations. I know he had options and he’s decided to come back to the spotlight.
