    Stoke 0-1 Tottenham

That was such a good header. Wasn't the easiest ball to generate power on to.

  2. goal

GOAL - Stoke 0-1 Tottenhampublished at 17:52 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2020

    Gareth Bale (22 mins)

Breakthrough! And what a header that is. Harry Winks peels out wide left to try and find some space, he has time to loft in a cross and Gareth Bale is all alone in the middle, maybe 15 yards out.

The ball is so good he doesn't have to jump, but still has plenty to do. And he does it well, twisting his neck to guide a header accurately into the far corner.

  3. 'Stoke need to be better when they win the ball back'published at 17:52 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2020

    Stoke 0-0 Tottenham

Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

What will be important for Spurs when Stoke have got a shape like this is Matt Doherty and Ben Davies, the full-backs have to get forward.

When Stoke win the ball they need to be better in possession because they're just giving it back to Spurs and not trusting themselves.

  4. Postpublished at 20 mins

    Stoke 0-0 Tottenham

First sign of frustration from a Spurs player as they can't find any way through the striped wall. Stoke look more than happy so far with the pattern of this game.

  5. Postpublished at 17 mins

    Stoke 0-0 Tottenham

If you can't go round them maybe go over? Lucas Moura with a lovely lofted ball over the top, Gareth Bale makes the diagonal run inside and he's close to bringing it down.

He may well have been offside but no flag was raised. Stoke have not seen the ball in an age.

  6. Postpublished at 13 mins

    Stoke 0-0 Tottenham

It's 23 clean sheets in 46 games this calendar year for Stoke. They've taken lockdown very seriously.

But that's the first real save of the night, Andy Lonergan having to be sharp and strong to punch out a rising shot from Harry Kane.

  7. Postpublished at 12 mins

    Stoke 0-0 Tottenham

A really neat flowing move from Spurs, started by Harry Kane in his new floating 10 role, ends with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg rifling a shot way over the top.

Hojbjerg was one of the players I imagined whould be rested tonight but he's been everywhere so far.

  8. Postpublished at 10 mins

    Stoke 0-0 Tottenham

He's done a cracking job. A graphic flashed up on the TV earlier and I think Stoke are fourth in terms of points won since he took over, in all four divisions.

Will we be hearing Delilah back in the top flight soon?

Callum Hayes: Michael O’Neill deserves great credit for what he did with Northern Ireland and now from taking a stoke side who were desperately struggling in the championship to get them just outside of the play offs and to efl cup quatar finals well done to him decent manager

  10. Postpublished at 7 mins

    Stoke 0-0 Tottenham

Spurs are indeed bossing the early play but Stoke look well organised. Matt Doherty and Gareth Bale link up down the right but can't craft an opening.

  11. 'Stoke will be a threat from set pieces'published at 17:36 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2020

    Stoke 0-0 Tottenham

    Clinton Morrison
Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Tottenham will dominate possession and Stoke won't mind that. They'll look to get their opportunities to try and cause Tottenham problems and try and hold the ball up and buy free-kicks. Stoke will be a threat from set pieces, without a shadow of a doubt.

  12. Postpublished at 6 mins

    Stoke 0-0 Tottenham

Gareth Bale whips in a free-kick and it just dies in the wind - falls short and makes it hard to deal with but Lucas Moura can't help it on.

  13. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Stoke 0-0 Tottenham

Andy Lonergan gets two early testers, first the corner and then the follow-up are drifted in right on the top of his head. His first punch isn't the greatest but the second one is met with much more conviction.

Delighted to see Dele play! We've had too many defensive players in the 11, lately. Can he do it on a cold, wet Wednesday night (against Stoke) though?

    Mark

Well tonight we find out if Bale can do it on a wet Wednesday night in Stoke?

    Sam in Leicester

    Anyone heard this joke before?

  15. Postpublished at 2 mins

    Stoke 0-0 Tottenham

One of the first games I ever went to was at Stoke, at their old ground. It was 50p to get in and another 50p for a cushion. Great times.

I wonder when we'll all get into a game again? The EFL Cup final has been moved back to April by the way, in the hope that more fans can go.

Will either of these two be there? Stoke win a corner.

  16. 'Spurs will be too strong for Stoke in the end'published at 17:31 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2020

    Stoke 0-0 Tottenham

    Charlie Adam
Former Stoke City midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Since Michael O'Neill's come in he's stabilised the football club but if I look at both teams it just shows who's really thinking this is more important. Spurs are looking at this as an opportunity to go and win a trophy, Jose Mourinho likes this competition. Michael's made six changes, giving lads an opportunity to play against a Premier League outfit which they deserve. The most important thing for them is the Premier League, they know that. I think Spurs will be too strong in the end.

  17. KICK-OFFpublished at 1 min

The wind is turning Jacob Brown's shirt inside out as we get under way. Stoke in British racing green tonight. Fetching.

  18. Postpublished at 17:28 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2020

    Stoke v Tottenham (17:30 GMT)

I don't want to labour the point but it's absolutely rank out there. Freezing, tipping down and blowing a force-nine gale.

If only Rory Delap was playing.

Koki Saito: Spurs looked confused against Leicester on Sunday, let's see if the 'Special One' can bring his squad to life.

Tim Sherwood: Great to see Lamela back today. He might not score many goals, but he is a threat up front while also defending very well. I hope he gets some minutes today, one of Spurs' most underrated players
