  1. 'City would probably like another striker in hindsight'published at 19:29 Greenwich Mean Time 27 October 2020

Marseille v Manchester City (20:00 GMT)

    Gary O'Neil
Former Portsmouth midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Manchester City would probably like to have another striker if they had the chance and the transfer window was open now they would probably like to have the option to buy one. But that's hindsight. When Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus were available City would've felt that they were comfortable.

Aguero is 32-years-old and will probably start to pick up more injuries but they have Jesus who is young and hungry and more than capable of leading the line. You can't just sign loads of expensive players just in case there are injuries. Plus, to get a top class player, who are you going to get to sit on the bench and play as your third choice number 9? It would be very difficult. Pep has found the answers so many times when he's struggled with team selections, he usually comes up with something creative and makes it work.

    Liverpool

Liverpool have only lost one of their last 26 home games in all European competition (W18 D7), although that defeat came last time out versus Atletico Madrid in March (2-3). They haven’t suffered consecutive home defeats in Europe since December 2009.

Just as we were discussing in the office how nobody can surely stop Bayern again this season, and moments after Kingsley Coman shot over after a lovely one-touch move, the hosts are level!

It's VERY loud in the stadium as Anton Miranchuk sidefoots home.

  5. 'Jota is an astute signing for Liverpool'published at 19:21 Greenwich Mean Time 27 October 2020

    Liverpool v Midtjylland (20:00 GMT)

    Gary O'Neil
Former Portsmouth midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Diogo Jota has settled in really well at Liverpool - he's made a very good start. Sometimes it can take a while to fit in when you join a new club, especially joining such a big club. With the levels set so high as they are at Liverpool, to go in and have the impact he has had already is impressive.

It's an astute signing by the club, you know he's more than capable of stepping up if someone gets injured or if you need to rest someone. He's there to put pressure on the guys already in the front three - who have been fantastic and pretty much pick themselves. But now there is a fourth option and he can slot in and the levels won't drop too much from what we're used to seeing in that Liverpool front three.

Wow! VAR have a look at that and decide that not only was it not a penalty, it's not even a foul.

  7. PENALTY TO BAYERNpublished at 19:18 Greenwich Mean Time 27 October 2020

    Lokomotiv Moscow 0-1 Bayern Munich

Brilliant from Robert Lewandowski, slaloming between three defenders before he's chopped down. Is that outside the box or just in? Penalty given but they'll check this.

  8. WHAT A MISS!published at 19:17 Greenwich Mean Time 27 October 2020

    Shakhtar Donetsk 0-0 Inter Milan

Somehow Inter Milan have failed to take the lead against Shakhtar Donetsk in Kyiv.

Inter hit the bar twice in the first half and, inside 10 minutes of the second, Marcelo Brozovic's fierce effort was parried by teenage goalkeeper Anatolii Trubin with Lautaro Martinez firing wide from six yards out with the goal unguarded.

  9. 'Guardiola has picked a strong team'published at 19:16 Greenwich Mean Time 27 October 2020

Marseille v Manchester City (20:00 GMT)

    Pat Nevin
Former Chelsea and Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Pep Guardiola has picked as strong a team as he possibly can, if you look at some of the substitutes they're youngsters. He wants to win the game and you know what it's like in Champions League - if you start well and win the first game and then manage to win your second one, which is a big ask for City tonight, then you can get through maybe with one or two games to go and are able to rest players. That makes a difference later in the season. As we know Pep is talking about his injury woes and that could make a huge difference towards the end of the season.

Marseille have netted just five goals in their last 12 matches against English teams in European competition and never more than once in a game in this run. They last scored more than once versus an English side back in February 2006 against Bolton Wanderers (2-1, Uefa Cup).

Reindeerhotdog: Midtjylland might have lost 4 nil against Atalanta last week but they had 47% possession & 9 shots, 6 of which were from outside the box. Atalanta won by crowding Midtjylland's box - Liverpool will need to get in their faces from the first whistle.

Rare starts for Xherdan Shaqiri, Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino as Liverpool make four changes to the side that started the 2-1 win over Sheffield United at the weekend.

Swiss winger Shaqiri makes his first club start since last month's Carabao Cup win at Lincoln City - as does Belgium forward Origi.

Minamino starts for the first time since 1 October while James Milner comes into the midfield.

Georginio Wijnaldum, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah make way.

Liverpool XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, Gomez, Robertson, Henderson, Milner, Shaqiri, Jota, Minamino, Origi.

Substitutes: Wijnaldum, Firmino, Mane, Salah, Adrian, Jones, Rhys Williams, Jaros, Cain, Neco Williams.

Danish champions Midtjylland included two-time Celtic Scottish Premiership winner Erik Sviatchenko in defence.

Former Brighton winger Anders Dreyer also starts, while ex-Brentford forward Lasse Vibe is on the bench.

Midtjylland: Andersen, Andersson, Sviatchenko, Scholz, Paulinho, Onyeka, Cajuste, Dreyer, Sisto, Mabil, Kaba.

Substitutes: Cools, Evander, Kraev, James, Vibe, Ottesen, Pfeiffer, Anderson, Madsen, Dyhr, Isaksen, Thorsen.

  20. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 18:46 Greenwich Mean Time 27 October 2020

    Shakhtar Donetsk 0-0 Inter Milan

It's still goalless in the Group B match between Shakhtar Donetsk and Inter Milan - but only just.

Romelu Lukaku has just seen a powerful free-kick from just outside the penalty area superbly tipped onto the crossbar by 19-year-old goalkeeper Anatolii Trubin.

That's the second time Inter have hit the woodwork after Nicolo Barella's 18-yard effort bounced off the bar after Trubin had blocked Lukaku when the ex-Manchester United striker only had the keeper to beat.

Shakhtar gained a shock 3-2 win away at Real Madrid on matchday one and will be happy to have got to half time level in Kyiv.
