  2. goal

GOAL - Southampton 2-0 Newcastlepublished at 82 mins

    Stuart Armstrong

It's a shambles from Newcastle again. Sean Longstaff doesn't know what to do with it on the edge of his own box and tries to turn back inside under pressure.

He leaves the ball behind and Stuart Armstrong is there to nick it off him. He has quick feet to dance past the first defender then gains a yard on the second, before firing it into the bottom right corner.

    Brilliant finish.

  3. Postpublished at 81 mins

Allan Saint-Maximin goes down after running into Jan Bednarek. He was clutching his knee but he's up and jogging about.

Matt: How have VAR dismissed that penalty check so quickly?! Clear foul on Walcott!

  6. Postpublished at 78 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Newcastle

Seen a few angles on replay now. That looks like a penalty but clearly those in Stockley Park have it in HD...

  7. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 76 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Newcastle

Stuart Armstrong is through! He feints to shoot himself and instead tries to tee up Theo Walcott.

Jamaal Lascelles slides across and makes the block. Southampton want a penalty. It's gone to VAR for a check and nothing's been given.

Judging by the replay, they should have one!? Lascelles doesn't get much of the ball (if any) and he's come right through Walcott. Hmm. Weird one.

  8. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 73 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Newcastle

Nathan Redmond is on for nutmeg king Moussa Djenepo.

  9. Postpublished at 72 mins

Jacob Murphy and Miguel Almiron are over it but it's Murphy who takes. He tries to beat the wall but Southampton jump up in unison and block it.

Graham: Newcastle cannot continue to rely on Darlow to keep them in games if they can’t do anything at the other end of the pitch. Eventually a goal will go in and they’ll have nothing to offer in response.

Oliver: Bruce moving Saint-Maximin up to play alongside Wilson was a terrible shout. He's so much more effective coming from deep, running at defences at speed.

  12. Postpublished at 70 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Newcastle

Jacob Murphy squeezes a cross in from the right and Callum Wilson is the target. It's cleared only as far as Matty Longstaff and Stuart Armstrong concedes a free-kick right on the edge of Southampton's area for a needless push.

    Chance here for Newcastle!

  13. Postpublished at 68 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Newcastle

Allan Saint-Maximin tries to create something for Newcastle. He pushes it on to Miguel Almiron but Kyle Walker-Peters is across to cover.

It comes back to Saint-Maximin but he pokes it out for a goal kick. He's not been great tonight.

  14. 'Newcastle are trying to get a grip on possession'published at 21:21 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2020

    Southampton 1-0 Newcastle

    Karen Carney
Former England and Chelsea winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Newcastle have got two midfielders sitting in now, Miguel Almiron has gone out wide and they're obviously trying to deal with that midfield overload and try and get a grip on the possession and get back into this game.

  15. GREAT SAVE!published at 63 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Newcastle

Jan Bednarek gets his head onto it at the near post and it's great reactions from Karl Darlow, who gets two hands to it and pushes it away.

  16. Postpublished at 62 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Newcastle

    Lovely stuff again.

James Ward-Prowse through to Stuart Armstrong. He whips it in early towards Theo Walcott but Fabian Schar slides in to clear.

    Corner.

  17. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 61 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Newcastle

Matty Longstaff is on for Jeff Hendrick.

  18. Postpublished at 61 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Newcastle

James Ward-Prowse lays it off to Moussa Djenepo as Southampton break quickly through the middle.

Djenepo goes down in the box and appeals for a penalty for contact from Jacob Murphy.

The ref is having none of it.

    Southampton 1-0 Newcastle

Yet more good football from Southampton. It's played around nicely at the back - one-touch passing - before James Ward-Prowse signals and whips it down the line.

Che Adams looked offside but there's no flag and he pings it over to the left for Moussa Djenepo.

He wins a corner but the delivery is too deep when it eventually comes in.

  20. 'Darlow has kept Newcastle in the game with that save'published at 21:11 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2020

    Southampton 1-0 Newcastle

    Karen Carney
Former England and Chelsea winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

That is an unbelievable shot and an unbelievable save. If he didn't get those fingertips on it that's going top bins. Again Newcastle dispossess the ball in a stupid area, Oriol Romeu picks it up, 25-yards-out, one touch, smashes it, great shot, execution perfect, but the save - Karl Darlow is keeping Newcastle in the game with that save.
