Oliver: Bruce moving Saint-Maximin up to play alongside Wilson was a terrible shout. He's so much more effective coming from deep, running at defences at speed.

Jacob Murphy squeezes a cross in from the right and Callum Wilson is the target. It's cleared only as far as Matty Longstaff and Stuart Armstrong concedes a free-kick right on the edge of Southampton's area for a needless push.

Newcastle have got two midfielders sitting in now, Miguel Almiron has gone out wide and they're obviously trying to deal with that midfield overload and try and get a grip on the possession and get back into this game.

Jan Bednarek gets his head onto it at the near post and it's great reactions from Karl Darlow, who gets two hands to it and pushes it away.

James Ward-Prowse through to Stuart Armstrong. He whips it in early towards Theo Walcott but Fabian Schar slides in to clear.

Djenepo goes down in the box and appeals for a penalty for contact from Jacob Murphy.

The ref is having none of it.

Yet more good football from Southampton. It's played around nicely at the back - one-touch passing - before James Ward-Prowse signals and whips it down the line.

Che Adams looked offside but there's no flag and he pings it over to the left for Moussa Djenepo.

He wins a corner but the delivery is too deep when it eventually comes in.

That is an unbelievable shot and an unbelievable save. If he didn't get those fingertips on it that's going top bins. Again Newcastle dispossess the ball in a stupid area, Oriol Romeu picks it up, 25-yards-out, one touch, smashes it, great shot, execution perfect, but the save - Karl Darlow is keeping Newcastle in the game with that save.
