  1. Postpublished at 55 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Newcastle

Che Adams picks the ball up with his back turned to goal. He controls it well then smartly turns and pokes it through to Stuart Armstrong.

He's offside but the whistle doesn't go straight away.

  2. Postpublished at 53 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Newcastle

Just seen another replay of that shot from Oriol Romeu and Karl Darlow gets a touch on it.

    Brilliant save!

  3. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 52 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Newcastle

How have Southampton not scored? They have successive corners and the second is cleared off the line by Jamaal Lascelles.

It falls to Jannik Vestergaard at the back post and he heads it to Jan Bednarek, who volleys it.

Seconds later, Oriol Romeu absolutely smashes one off the crossbar from the edge of the box.

  4. Postpublished at 49 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Newcastle

That was FAR too easy. Southampton just pass it around Newcastle's press and when Theo Walcott gets the ball in the centre, he only has one thing on his mind.

He drives at the centre-backs and they keep backing off. Eventually, his shot is deflected dangerously wide.

  5. Postpublished at 48 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Newcastle

Stuart Armstrong tries to push it through to Che Adams on the left but it's well read by Newcastle's midfield.

  6. Postpublished at 46 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Newcastle

Callum Wilson immediately presses Jannik Vestergaard from the kick-off and gets a block on his clearance.

    A good sign!

That goal could easily have been scored by a Liverpool forward after so much relentless pressing. Southampton have been outstanding - and without Ings!

    Tim in Mallow

Brucie needs to put his thinking cap on at half time. Maybe go four at the back and bring Carroll on as an extra attacker.

    Keith in Bath

I thought we would miss Danny Ings. Che Adams is making the most of his chance.

Mark: I’m a Chelsea fan but have to say Southampton are great to watch. They seem to have only one gear and that’s entertain.

David: Good to see Newcastle being responsible and socially distancing themselves from any understanding of how to play the game.

Andy Carroll is out on the pitch warming up. Will we see him come on for Newcastle?

Love that managers are now doing punditry to put themselves in the shop window these days.

Mauricio Pochettino on BT Sport the other day, Tony Pulis on BBC Radio 5 Live earlier and now Alan Pardew doing half-time analysis at St Mary's for Sky Sports.

    It's the new thing.

T Matthews: Sorry to say that Jamaal Lewis looks so far out of his depth at the moment it's scary. Thought he was a great signing at the time but every game looks like a deer in the headlights.

  14. 'Bruce is not happy'published at 20:48 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2020

    Southampton 1-0 Newcastle

    Karen Carney
Former England and Chelsea winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Steve Bruce is going mental - because all the Southampton joy is coming from Newcastle being poor and sloppy in possession. They're gifting Southampton - they've got to move it quicker and they're getting dispossessed because they're holding onto the ball for too long.

  15. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:47 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2020

    Southampton 1-0 Newcastle

Southampton are playing well but will be disappointed they're only 1-0 up. Still, top of the table...

    Newcastle have work to do.

  16. Postpublished at 45+1 min

    Southampton 1-0 Newcastle

Oriol Romeu touches it on to Che Adams, who is just bundled out of it by Fabian Schar.

The Newcastle defender then dawdles on it in the box, under pressure from Adams and he's lucky the referee blows the whistle for a foul when Adams takes it off him and is about to shoot.

James: I would cordially invite all Saints fans to sign the following petition to close St Mary’s stadium for supporters for the future, beyond lockdown and Covid. It would seem that all we do is put them off.

Brucie's boys struggling here. I'd like to see big Joelinton leading the line after half time. We need to try something different!

  18. 'Newcastle are getting overrun'published at 20:44 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2020

    Southampton 1-0 Newcastle

    Karen Carney
Former England and Chelsea winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Newcastle really need to sort the midfield situation out - they're getting overrun. Southampton's wide players are coming in-field and narrow and creating over-loads in there. Jeff Hendrick and Sean Longstaff haven't got to grips with it and keep turning to Steve Bruce as if to say 'what can I do' - they need to sort it out.

  19. YELLOW CARDpublished at 44 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Newcastle

Southampton are playing some brilliant football. Newcastle are making too many mistakes.

Jamal Lewis trods on the ball and Theo Walcott latches on to it. Federico Fernandez has to slide and bring him down before he gets in the box.

    Straight into the book.

  20. CLOSE!published at 42 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Newcastle

The goal Theo Walcott deserves was almost there!

It's brilliant from Moussa Djenepo, who flicks it between his legs when it's fizzed into his feet by James Ward-Prowse.

Walcott races into the box, cuts inside onto his right foot and curls it inches wide of the post.
