    Manchester City

Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy: "We feel very good. All the players and the team are so happy. We know we create a lot of chances and they didn't go in the goal, but today the strikers and midfielders did the job which is why we scored a lot.

"I feel like in some games it is more difficult because the opponent does not try to play with the ball and stay at the back. We work a lot on tactics and we were stronger."

On regaining his form and fitness: "It was not easy because sometimes I was coming back then something happened. Now I am feeling more fit so I am ready to give everything for Manchester City and do my job for the team."

Having failed to register an attempt in the first half, Burnley finished the game with nine.

They've now conceded 28 goals in the past seven meetings with City.

Sean Dyche will be relieved he doesn't have to face them again in the league until February.

  3. 'Win more important than hat-trick'published at 16:58 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2020

    FT: Man City 5-0 Burnley

    Manchester City

Manchester City hat-trick hero Riyad Mahrez, speaking to MOTD: "We are happy to score a lot of goals and create a lot of chance. We get three points and we keep going.

"When you play well and you don't score in games you have a bit of frustration but we have to keep working. We did keep working in training and in games to get the confidence back.

"It's always good to score goals so I am very happy but the most important thing was to win and create chances.

"Probably the last one [is my favourite goal] because I don't score too many with my head.

"We have to take it game by game. We have a difficult game in Porto for the first place in the Champions League group so we will try to win as always."

City fans are no strangers to the agricultural approach - having sat through Stuart Pearce putting David James up front, and scoring ten at home all season. Burnley are far better than we were then.

I hope City get the credit for this. Burnley are a hard team to hammer, unless they play City away.

It could have been six or seven. Time and again City got into dangerous positions. They really were purring today.

I can't say Burnley have played badly, they have just been outclassed.

Anyone who has written City off for the Premier League this season. Rethink.

He's free inside Burnley's penalty area and lets fly with another thunderous attempt.

It clatters off the post and away to safety.

Coco Pop: Burnley are embarrassing whenever they play Man City away. Get thrashed every time. Sean Dyche never seems to learn. Maybe this is why other clubs haven't come in for him. Limited manager.

Naveed: Yes, Man City have spent a billion but Burnley are dreadful in every sense of the word. In the few games I watch them play they’d be more suited to rugby. I’d rather see Fulham stay up.

Callum Johnstone: Of course, we all know the real reason VAR disallowed that goal was to not spoil the streak of 5-0s.

As a Man City fan I'd hate to see Burnley relegated. Let's support other north west teams, apart from United and Liverpool obviously. Also, Burnley remind me of what we were like before the money rolled in.

    Ann

Surprise, surprise - it's the "moneybags City" narrative to take the shine off a brilliant performance. Funny how other clubs like Liverpool and United always seem to win by playing well despite also spending heavily on players.

It wasn't that long ago that City couldn't maintain their place in the top flight, agricultural or not.

It’s the best I’ve seen City play in quite a long time.

They’ve been brilliant. Previously they’ve been tense, but today they’re back to their normal selves.

City are breaking into positions and attacking with pace.

Everything they’ve done has been dynamic and it’s caused Burnley no end of problems.

In the last few weeks everything’s had to be to feet, but they’ve played into spaces today and they’ve looked terrific.

Can we just skip this fixture next season and award a 5-0 to City?

It'll cut out an awful lot of Clarets pain.
