Bruno Fernandes flicks on a corner and it very nearly drifts in at the far post. Did he intend that or was he looking for Harry Maguire?

    Either way it was close.

We haven't seen much from Newcastle since Joelinton went off. They haven't had the option to hit the diagonal to get them out of a lull in the game.

Newcastle are starting to look tired, not surprising given their pressing game at the start of this match. Will Steve Bruce make a change soon?

Defeat here and Fulham would be just three points behind.

DCM: You can't fault the work ethic of Dan James. Not the most skillful or technical, just direct, but gives it his all. That's what we need.

Still not convinced James is a long term option for United, but great to see him actually smash a shot on goal.

Bruno Fernandes' assist was his 12th of the season across all comps, only Kevin de Bruyne (15), Harry Kane (14) and Son Heung-Min (13) have more amongst PL players.

The Portugal international is also the third player within Europe's top five leagues this season to reach double figures for both goals and assists (14 goals, 10 assists) in league matches, alongside Harry Kane (13G, 11A) and Thomas Muller (10G, 10A).

That goal has settled the home side down and they are keeping the ball nicely, just trying to frustrate Newcastle more than anything. They may well need a third and Marcus Rashford hits a curling shot from range straight at Karl Darlow.

Ashwin R: James showing his worth here. Good squad player for MUFC.

Tony Bartlett: When things aren’t going your way, roll your socks up, work hard and get involved. Nicely struck goal Dan James, take note Tony Martial.

What an undeserved lead. Newcastle have been the better team and find themselves behind again.

The moment of brilliance has come from someone you don't expect it to - Nemanja Matic. His ball just sucks in Jamal Lewis, and Daniel James' first touch is perfect. It's a good finish.

Newcastle reacted realy well to going behind in the first half, let's see if they can mount a response this time.

Instead it's Anthony Martial who comes alive, beating his man sharply to get into the box and hit a swerving, stinging shot that Karl Darlow turns away!

Out of nowhere! Manchester United have the lead again and it's a cracking finish. Nemanja Matic finds himself on the edge of the area, he squares it for Bruno Fernandes who can't get there but on the stretch he manages to touch it on to Daniel James.

Karl Darlow flies out at him but the former Swansea man cracks in a shot at the near post.

Newcastle have worked out when to press and when to sit in - this hasn't been a defensive display at all from Newcastle.

There are times when you have to respect the opposition and the phase of the game and soak it up for a couple of minutes.

Matt Dawson: Second half starts and Newcastle are dominating again. Utd completely unable to get on the ball and play out. Newcastle looking like the top four side here.

Kyle: Brilliant performance so far from Newcastle, we have defended well and attacked well. We have won the ball back in dangerous areas. Much better team selection and performance. ASM and Almiron have been superb.

A tough crowd for Harry Maguire tonight.

But since Ole Gunnar Solskjear took the Man Utd job, only Chelsea (34), Everton (32) and Newcastle (30) have conceded more set-piece goals than the Red Devils (28) in the Premier League.
