It hasn't been a vintage Everton display but they have been solid enough.

They'll be glad to have Allan back - he has defended well.

Danny Ings kicking a post in frustration probably sums up Southampton's night, and current form.

That moment there is Jordan Pickford in a nutshell.

He was big, strong and made a fantastic initial save. But, then he's still bouncing, and completely misses the ball in trying to punch it.

From the magnificent to the mistake from Pickford in a matter of moments.

  6. GREAT SAVE!published at 90 mins

    Everton 1-0 Southampton

Another corner for Southampton. They're stacking up late on at Goodison Park.

James Ward-Prowse's delivery is good, Everton fail to clear it but get bodies in front of a number of attempted shots before it falls to Jannik Vestergaard on the edge of the six-yard box.

The big centre back pokes an effort at goal but Jordan Pickford does superbly to spread himself and keep Everton in front.

  7. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 88 mins

    Everton 1-0 Southampton

Andre Gomes is replaced by Alex Iwobi. It comes after Everton have half a chance in the Southampton box, but it just didn't quite fall for Richarlison.

Southampton make a change too. Caleb Watts for Nathan Redmond.

The last time Southampton failed to have a single shot on target during a Premier League match was in March 2018 against West Ham - they're heading that way again here...

That is really great play from Southampton - good tempo, great intent, real confidence in their play. They cut right through the heart of the Everton defence, and he should have at least hit the target. He let Jordan Pickford off the hook.

Ralph Hasenhuttl thought that was in. Arguably Southampton's best move of the match, and it deserved better from Moussa Djenepo.

  11. CLOSE!published at 85 mins

    Everton 1-0 Southampton

That was the chance for Southampton.

It's a wonderful move, their best of the match, and the visitors find Moussa Djenepo coming on to the ball in space at the right of the box.

The winger has time to pick his spot but fires wide of the far post. Had to hit the target...

You'd have thought that Southampton have done enough to avoid relegation, but when you're on a run like this and you wonder where your next point is coming from and if this continues for another four or five games they could certainly be in trouble.

Everton hanging on a bit now as the Saints search for an equaliser. This is usually where Michael Keane, Ben Godfrey and Mason Holgate earn their corn.

Everton are a solid well organised unit but suffer on confidence. That disallowed goal has dented that because at 2-0 they would have coasted this.

Everton have been comfortable. The way that they have set up in a number of away games this season is how they've set up in this half.

They've already got the goal advantage so they don't run out of position unnecessarily, or that leaves them exposed. They've been very comfortable at the back.

That's a lovely touch and turn from Danny Ings, he's got so much quality, but the Southampton forward slips while trying to look for a team-mate.

Southampton keep it alive and win a corner.

Ten minutes to go. Nathan Tella is in the book for an earlier foul on Lucas Digne.

  18. Postpublished at 80 mins

Does that count as a shot on target from Jordan Pickford as his clearance reaches Fraser Forster in the opposite penalty box.

Stuart Armstrong then goes down in the Everton half and it's another chance for James-Ward Prowse to deliver. It comes to nothing for the visitors.

  19. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 78 mins

    Everton 1-0 Southampton

Another change for Southampton, and it's Daniel N'Lundulu who comes on for Ralph Hasenhuttl's side. Che Adams heads off.

  20. YELLOW CARDpublished at 77 mins

    Everton 1-0 Southampton

Stuart Armstrong is the first player to go into the book for a foul on Dominic Calvert-Lewin, maybe a touch unlucky there.
