    Everton 1-0 Southampton

Lucas Digne gets a couple of opportunities to deliver from the left but both come to nothing - the left-back then almost puts Danny Ings through at the other end with a slightly undercooked back pass. Came off his foot blue, that one.

Jordan Pickford rushes out to hack it clear and save his blushes.

Everton have reinvented themselves as a long ball, 1980s, English football team. And all it took was an Italian manager!!

Harry T: If Southampton don’t win here and then fail to beat Sheffield Utd and Man City, I see them entering a battle to survive. They need major improvements for next season and if they want European football they need much much more consistent form throughout the season.

Good running from Danny Ings but he can't find anyone in support and eventually his hopeful cross is turned behind for a corner.

It's cleared as far as Nathan Redmond, who fires the dipping ball straight back on the volley but his effort drifts over the crossbar. Would've been some goal from there...

Regardless of the fact that it was offside it will be good for Fraser Forster's confidence. He's in to the team, he's conceded an early goal, but that is a terrific save, down to his left. It was a really strong hand.

Southampton just held their line, they were really brave.

Great save from Fraser Forster, but Richarlison was offside before he headed goalwards - not that the goalkeeper knew that when he dived low to his left to palm the effort away.

Mohammed Salisu is annoyed after conceding a free-kick in a dangerous area for a high boot - in fairness he showed great agility to get his foot up beyond Dominic Calvert-Lewin's head...

Like Everton, Richarlison's form has been patchy this season. But his 11th goal of the season is also his third goal in successive games. Give him a decent through ball and he delivers.

Tired of this 'Ralph Out' rhetoric. Injuries have ruined the squad and there isn't enough cover in the vital positions. He's doing a wonderful job with what amounts to the under 18's as a bench. People are too quick to diagnose a symptom and not a cause.

Everton's first real chance, that. A nightmare for a Southampton side who have not won in eight league games.

Once Everton got into that position, Richarlison made a similar run to Dominic Calvert-Lewin earlier, and it's a lovely weighted pass by Sigurdsson. It is a good goal by Everton.

    Richarlison (9 mins)

What a start for the hosts!

It's route one from Everton as Jordan Pickford goes long looking for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and his flick falls to Gylfi Sigurdsson.

From there it's brilliant... Sigurdsson slides a lovely ball into Richarlison's path and the Brazilian rounds Fraser Forster with a neat touch before slotting into an empty net from the angle.

It was a big save from Fraser Forster - that is the benefit for Everton of playing with a narrow midfield, it means they have plenty of men in there. It was a strong arm from Forster.

Fraser Forster, on only his second Premier League start this season, is called into action for the first time but does well to slide out and steal the ball from the toes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Southampton have had quite a bit of the ball, and getting it out to Nathan Redmond on the left-hand side. We mentioned the narrow Everton midfield, and Abdoulaye Doucoure is being the one that will be asked to go out to the right, and Ryan Bertrand and Redmond have had quite a lot of the ball so far and are being positive with it.

The end is near for Hassenhüttl at southampton. His team really don't seem to be jelling anymore and the lack of goals against all teams is a very worrying sign.

Gylfi Sigurdsson looks to release Richarlison on the break but the Brazilian is absolutely thundered into by Jan Bednarek - he'll have felt that one.

Everton go direct again and Dominic Calvert-Lewin flicks the ball to Abdoulaye Doucoure but is then flagged offside.

I'm super excited to see Everton in with a shout at Champions League qualification. Credit to Tom Davies for how he's covered Allan's absence. He's the new Leon Osman, underrated, under appreciated by fans but his teammates know how good he is.
