But that is a spot-kick to Burnley!

Kyle Walker-Peters caught Erik Pieters after he put that cross in. It's similar to the Timo Werner one yesterday which gave Chelsea nothing.

The referee is going to have a look at the challenge on Erik Pieters actually. Burnley could get a penalty here.

Dwight McNeil beats his man and flashes in a low cross which almost picks out the slide of Chris Wood. Well defended in the end by the Saints, but here come Burnley again.

They've made a really energised start. Erik Pieters now sees his cross blocked and the left-back is hurt.

A promosiing start to the game, it's very open and end-to-end. Stuart Armstrong has one of his bursting runs through the middle and finds Theo Walcott on the left but his cross is easily dealt with by Nick Pope.

Danny Ings then lets fly from range and his shot is charged down. He wants a handball but it's waved away.

It struck Ben Mee in the chest but there was a bit of arm about it.

  6. CLOSE!published at 2 mins

    Southampton 0-0 Burnley

And Burnley go close inside the first minute! Chris Wood pounces on a poor touch in midfield, drives into the area and sends in a low shot which Fraser Forster does well to claw out.

The sun/shade mix on the pitch is causing havoc for my monitor/eyes.

I had my doubts about our pre-match graphic but Nathan Redmond has indeed started up front for Southampton with Theo Walcott on the left of midfield.

Danny Ings netted 37 goals in 122 league appearances for Burnley (2012-2015), including 11 goals in 35 Premier League matches in 2014/15.

Is he going to shine today?

Disagree with Lawro. I'm a fan and I don't see anywhere but down for Saints. Next season there won't be Ings or JWP. If not this season then next. Saints are a Championship team with a class manager.

The players are heading back inside at the end of their warm-ups - it's another beauty of an April day. Sprinklers on, sun out.

I can only judge on what everyone is wearing but it looks a lot warmer out there than this time yesterday as well.

Both of these sides have got 33 points and, while they are not safe yet, I don't see either of them going down.

Burnley played very well to beat Everton in their last game and while Southampton's league form is still pretty awful, they ran out easy winners against Bournemouth in the FA Cup.

Whoever wins will take a giant step towards ensuring their survival, but I can see the points being shared.

    Prediction: 1-1

Southampton scored at least twice in each of their first six home league games this season, netting an average of 2.2 per game (13 in total).

Since then, Saints have scored just five goals in eight games at St Mary’s Stadium and never more than once in a match.

Burnley have both scored (32% - 7/22) and conceded (27% - 10/37) a league-high share of their Premier League goals in the opening 15 minutes of games so far this season. Indeed, the Clarets have either scored or conceded in this timeframe in each of their last four Premier League matches.

Danny Ings was flying in the first few months of the season but like most of his team-mates his form has dipped. He's scored twice in the league in 2021, with his last strike coming against Wolves on Valentine's Day.

Can the Saints keep hold of Danny Ings this summer? The striker's current deal runs through to the summer of 2022 but boss Ralph Hasenhuttl remains confident the club can reach an agreement over an extension and fend off any interest elsewhere.

"He had a fantastic season last season, but since then he has had a few injury problems and did not score that much, but he is still a very good striker," Hasenhuttl said.

"Is he good enough to be an option for them? I don't know, but I expect him to stay with us as he knows what he has with us.

"He has one more year (on his) contract. This will be an interesting situation for him, if one of the big clubs wants him.

"It is always difficult for us to keep a player with us, this is normal, but I do not see this scenario in the summer if I am honest."
