  1. CLOSE!published at 5 mins

    Chelsea 0-0 Leicester

Leicester are have started well, stringing a few passes together, and looking to attack, but Chelsea have so much quality.

Jessie Fleming does really well coming in from the left, and that allows the hosts to recycle the ball, and it ends up with Niamh Charles laying the ball back for Fran Kirby, and the England midfielder curls towards goal but it drifts just wide of the far post.

    Good game this.

    Chelsea 0-0 Leicester

Leicester look like breaking away, but a loose ball allows Chelsea to counter, and Fran Kirby runs dangerously through the middle but her pass sends Beth England a bit wide and the champions have to settle for a corner.

Decent ball too, but it is headed clear at the near post.

    Chelsea 0-0 Leicester

Dutch centre back Aniek Nouwen is making her first WSL start for Chelsea today, and I've just mentioned Jessie Fleming, Canada's Olympic gold medallist, as a Ballon d'Or nominee, she is making her first start of the season too.

    Chelsea have some serious depth.

Leicester don’t quite have the luxury Chelsea have in terms of rotation. You can really see the strength in depth Chelsea have this season.

There’s so much quality throughout the Chelsea team and different players who can link up with each other. It won’t be a problem for Emma Hayes today.

Before the game gets under way the Chelsea players, and management staff, have linked arms and made a huddle in their half of the pitch in a show of solidarity after the NWSL sexual abuse story in the past two weeks.

    The Kingsmeadow crowd applaud.

    Chelsea v Leicester (12:30 BST)

Time to focus on the day's early game then, with champions Chelsea hosting newly-promoted Leicester at Kingsmeadow.

Leicester are yet to pick up a point, and the omens aren't very good either...

    • Chelsea have won 16 of their last 17 WSL matches against newly-promoted clubs (D1), conceding only four goals across these matches while scoring 51 themselves.
    • A newly-promoted club hasn’t beaten the WSL champions since March 2015, when Sunderland won 2-1 away at Liverpool. In 17 matches since, promoted clubs have drawn two and lost 15, failing to score in 12 of those games.
    • Chelsea have won 20 of their last 21 WSL home matches (L1), losing the other 2-1 to Brighton in February. They’ve won their last six matches at Kingsmeadow by an aggregate score of 23-1.

A home banker? Let's find out.

  12. Time to get off the mark?published at 12:21 British Summer Time 10 October 2021

Three teams - Reading, Birmingham and Leicester - are yet to register a point in this season's Women's Super League.

With a four-week break on the horizon they'll want to change that today.

Only one side goes down in the WSL, remember, so we're already seeing a tasty little relegation battle start to unfold.

  13. Getting tight at the toppublished at 12:19 British Summer Time 10 October 2021

Manchester United moved into the Champions League spots with their 2-2 draw against rivals Manchester City yesterday.

Chelsea will knock them back out today, providing they take at least a point from the day's early game against Leicester. Emma Hayes' side could even go top of the table, for a short period at least, if they win by five goals or more.

With five of the top six playing today it could be very congested come 17:00 BST.

Today marks the end of the Women's Super League until the weekend of 6/7 November - a whole FOUR weeks away!

Chelsea and Arsenal are in Champions League action against Juventus and Hoffenheim in midweek, while the other WSL sides are all in League Cup action.

Everybody then disappears off on international duty, before the FA Cup semi-finals between Arsenal-Brighton and Manchester City-Chelsea on 31 October.

Teams will want to pick up some points today...
