    Watford 0-0 Tottenham

Ex-England captain on BBC Radio 5 Live

If I was Antonio Conte, I'd be happy with the way Spurs have started apart from the final ball. They've got to kill people off and pick people out, but they've done enough to be one or two up. Watford are still level and with their front line, they might have a few chances later.

  2. Postpublished at 37 mins

    Watford 0-0 Tottenham

There's a few appeals for a penalty as Son Heung-min's shot is blocked and they want handball. Nothing given.

  3. Postpublished at 36 mins

    Watford 0-0 Tottenham

Imran Louza takes it off Son Heung-min inside the Watford box, then beats two players to bring it clear.

It's with Tottenham again a few seconds later though.

It's just a bit sloppy. Watford are losing it within seconds of robbing Spurs of possession.

Tottenham's touches have been a little heavy at times and they haven't found the right final ball yet.

    Oops.

Imran Louza gives it away just outside his box after a dodgy pass from his goalkeeper.

Harry Kane picks it up and fires it inches wide of the far, right post. What a chance!

Emerson is allowed to cross it on from the right again but it's headed away at the near post.

Watford look comfortable with these wide-ball situations so far.

Daniel Bachmann is absolutely furious with his team-mates as he tries to send Watford on a quick break.

Lucas Moura chips it into Harry Kane, who goes down under contact from William Ekong.

Watford are just about hanging in there. It looks as though they've done a lot of defensive work, but not much work in attack. So what are they going to do when they win the ball? They give it away and defend, but they've got to attack better.

    Watford 0-0 Tottenham

    Terry Butcher
Ex-England captain on BBC Radio 5 Live

Tottenham have got a switch of play every time, whichever side, through Ben Davies and Moura. Watford's wide men are coming back, but not wide. They've got a back four and four midfielders in front of them.

  18. 'Sometimes the coin falls for your side'published at 15:17 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2022

    FT: Arsenal 1-2 Man City

    Manchester City

Man City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to BT Sport: "Arsenal were better. We face a team that in recent years has struggled to be in the top four. They start tis season bottom, bottom, bottom. They have six days after beating Norwich, we have two days. It was so tough for us to come back. We had no energy. They is why we pout one more player in the middle to get more control and passes. We know in transitions and physicality they have it can be difficult. And it was difficult. We tried and in one minute we have a penalty and then the red card. We try to analyse many things but sometimes the coin falls on your side. We know what it means to beat Arsenal here in this moment they are in. Now we have time to rest.

"We are not a team to score in 90 minutes or added time. I didn't remember the last time. Maybe two or three years ago with Raheem against Southampton. We do not have this characteristic. But with 10 v 11 they change the system and it took mistakes to win the game.

"I didn't see their penalty as they did not show it on the screen. They showed it for us for Bernardo's. Bernardo's is a penalty but I could not see the Odegaard one, so I do not know."

Is it a one-horse title race? "It is unlikely as I have said before. Eleven games in a row is great in this period. Look at our bench. We have four academy players. We had many cases of Covid this season and injuries. Phil Foden today. Today with Kyle Walker was first time on the bench since Covid testing. We were incredibly tired and they were better. But football has happened. Sometimes it comes in our side."

  19. CLOSE!published at 17 mins

Another decent ball from Lucas Moura on the right. There's a mix-up in the middle from Watford too as Craig Cathcart reacts late to head it down and it's straight to Pierre-Emile Højbjerg. He blasts it over the bar but it wasn't a bad effort!

  20. 'You can see the fear in Watford's eyes'published at 15:16 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2022

    Watford 0-0 Tottenham

    Terry Butcher
Ex-England captain on BBC Radio 5 Live

Watford had a good start, but apart from the early shot from Dennis at Lloris, it has been all Tottenham. They've recycled the ball in wide areas and looked very dangerous. You can see the fear in Watford's eyes; as soon as a Spurs player gets the ball wide they are feeding Kane, Son and Moura. They've got to stop that and keep the ball when they get it,
